Jacob's name was changed to Israel by G-d. That's the reason the Bible refers to the 7 year tribulation period as ..."a time of Jacobs trouble"...meaning a horrible time cast upon the nation of Israel and the Jewish people mainly, but, also includes all the world.
The Bible often speaks of the Israel nation and/or the Jewish people in the singular .

Yes Jacob's name was changed to Israel "he who wrestles not with flesh and blood alone" signified by the word "Jacob" but as a new creature yoked with Emanuel God with us working in us to both will and do the good pleasure of our father not seen . The one that pined him down for the ten count . You're in. . . . abide in me.. . . the victor of our faith. .

The Bible often speaks of the Israel a nation according to the flesh, the temporal as that seen . . . . as those who have not the Spirit of Christ also called a outward Jew .All Israel are not considered born again Israel , or we could say as the same thing . . Christian the new name he named Israel as inward Jews born of the Spirt. in Acts . . His chaste virgin bride.
