I'm in a dilemma. I'm 17 and I realize I am way too young to be thinking about marriage. But I want to begin praying for that special someone in my life. I guess my question is: what do I pray? I know that I can pray about myself and ask God to refine and prepare me for that person.
A month ago, I had a relationship with a Christian guy but now we are just friends (because he didn't like the fact that we couldn't see each other b/c my dad doesn't allow me to date). My ex-boyfriend promised me he would be willing to wait for me until I went to college which is about 5 months away but he didn't. Again, now we are just "friends" and we don't talk anymore. When we were together almost on a daily basis, I prayed to God that He would make it possible for my relationship with him to workout. Was I wrong in praying that? If so, what should I have prayed instead?
And to those who have been heart broken by another person in a relationship, how do you deal with a low self-esteem? Where in the Bible do you look to feel beautiful because I don't want to base my beauty on my outward appearance?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
May God bless you all =)

*I guess what hurts about my ex is that we used to talk on a daily basis and I genuinely can say that I felt like I was blessed by him and that he was a friend whom I could hold accountable and who I prayed with and opened my heart to.

I don't know that it's necessarily wrong to pray as you did, but sometimes God has other plans. You are definitely RIGHT to pray as you have regarding the Lord refining and preparing you for the person He has in mind for you.

As far as beauty is concerned, look to God for that. Check out the Proverbs 31 woman. It may not be what the younger guys have in mind right now, but trust me when I tell you that when they have grown up and are ready for a lasting relationship, it's exactly what they'll be looking for. :)

Don't look to another person to establish your value. That's self-destructive. Look to the Lord, to whom you are everything. Respect yourself or no one else will either. You seem like a very precious, devout young lady. :)

I know you are hurting right now, but it's through the relationships that don't work out that we realize what we DON'T want in our lives, as well as what we DO want. We also learn to do things God's way and to wait for the special one that will be worth it! :)

God bless you back!! <3

Whatever we pray for it HAS to be in line with Gods will, so whatever we ask of him, end it with 'your will be done'. Its hard sometimes to follow that, because so often the way we see things and the things we want are so different to Gods way of seeing things. Ive learned that however disappointed I may be at things seemingly not going my way (relationship wise) I have to keep in mind the promises God has made me. He tells me he only wants the best for me. He tells me he will give me the desires of my heart. It would be good for you to listen to Mark Driscoll's sermon series 'The Peasant Princess' it covers a lot of relationshippy things and has really helped me in that area. i know now that whatever happens; I am a daughter of the King. Therefore I am a princess. He calls me beautiful. He calls me worthy. He calls me righteous. Man can throw whatever comments they like my way. I am a precious jewel held in the palm of the most high. Nothing will change that. He loves me - and because of all this, soon, I will love me!! Thank you Jesus! xx keep your head up honey, the journeys we encounter on the way just enable us to be better wives to the one God is lining us up to meet.
God bless xx

Thanks Jullianna =)
I really needed to hear that.
I am so grateful to God for websites like CC. It has allowed me to be blessed by people like you.
I don't come from a Christian family so I couldn't talk this over to them.
Once again thanks =)

Thanks Talitha too =)
Like Jullianna you have tears to my eyes, in a good way =)
I have already started to check out the Peasant Princess series.
It is truly fascinating so far. =)
I'm excited about it.
Thanks once again for taking the time to read and reply to my thread.
It means a lot to me.

I often wonder the same types of things.. I am only 19 years old but my most passionate desire in life is to be happily married to a righteous man of God with whom I can raise up a little army of God serving children. I am first focusing on establishing myself in Christ and developing a steady relationship with Him before I even think about pursuing anyone else. I often pray that God will prepare the man he's chosen for me for the ordained time when we'll cross eachothr's paths. I know God has someone chosen for me or else he wouldn't have designed me with such desires. It's all about trusting Him; trust that His will for your life is fulfilling to you in every way and nothing can keep His will from being done if you stay in the Word and follow His commndments (:

Thanks Jullianna =)

Before we were formed in our mother's womb, God knows us...He definitely knows us and to whom we belong to...Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" I believe that God's plan for us is to give us a wonderful life and that includes the special someone He wants us to be with forever...So let's just ask the Lord to help us do His will as we wait patiently for the one that He has for us. May the Lord bless us of a wonderful husband according to His will and purpose! :)

hey ladies:) i just wana add, as we pray let us also pray for our husband's to be...that wherever he may be, that he remains strong and faithful in the Lord and just pray that whatever is happening in his life, God is he strength and salvation and that when your paths cross that he will be ready for the next step in his life...

Blessing ladies:)

I agree us husbands should be prayed for too. I'm not a husband or father yet, still single, but it would be comforting know the person God has planned for me out there is praying for me too.

Amen to this!
I've been praying for that person as well. Let God unfold that person to us soon. Amen!
Keep on praying! The Lord is not SLOW in answering our prayers! bless you all!
