I am a Beggar

Lord, my Lord,
My clothes are tattered

Replace my tattered clothes
With clothes of your righteousness

Fuller cleanse me of sin
Day by day sanctify me

Lord you don't chastise me harshly
You tell me how much you love me

You draw me by the love for you
That your spirit put in me

Heaven is just over the horizon
I can see its faint glow

You are here with me now
You will be when I go over the horizon

Surely You will ask me to sit down
At your table with white robe given by you!

There is no valley of darkness
As long as you are near

I like this one. Seems to encapsulate many of the same thoughts and emotions that you've written about in non-poetry format as well. Sometimes I find that I need an intial spark to get my "poetry machine" running. I've used your poem as spark once before ("The Journey of the Redeemed Heart" was the result). If it's OK with you, I could use some ideas found in this one as a starting point sometime in the future and see what happens.

You are really a poet. I am writing in words what He is saying or doing for or to me

It wouldn't surprise me if unknowingly i have taken the ideas of your poems without even realizing it.

I used your poem as the starting point for this one:

Truly I am a beggar
With my badly tattered clothes
Which I cannot make clean

I find myself doing
That which your holiness loathes
As I crumble under the weight of being

In your mercy you chose
To save me from law's harshness
Not to despair nor lose the precious hope

When you felt so close
The love that knows no sparseness
Took the lead when I was at the end of my rope

Wishing for your presence to become clearer
I strive to conform to the image of the Son
In mind's affections and deeds concrete

In mysterious ways I do seem to get nearer
Yet in this life I have just begun
That which your grace makes complete

I like your version far better than mine!!!!!
more complete well done!
