It will be more interesting to see what the citizens do if they come to collect the weapons...the politicians should be the first to try and collect them.....in my view.
 
Calling a bluff- they'll levy a fine, but not try and collect the weapons.

Honestly, I don't give a damn what they do in Illinois.
I'd be okay with just selling it to Canada.

My first year of college, I lived with roommates who were juniors. They decided I needed to be hazed. They wanted me to stand at the front door and sing the national anthem. BTW, I can't sing at all, so hitting those high notes was never going to happen.

I didn't.

Same reaction to this law. Not only am I not handing in a gun I bought, I will start a pile for those fines. Might even go out and buy a gun for the first time just because of that "law."

How are the cops going to arrest me, since they were supposed to hand in their guns too? lol

If IL is anything like PA law, they might just have to do that.

My dad has Alzheimer. We've known this for a long time, and when he was first diagnosed, my oldest brother quietly went around Dad's house to take away all his guns and bullets. Sadly, I assumed brother knew about Dad's gun too. (I forgot Dad didn't buy that gun until brother wasn't living at home anymore.)

A couple of years ago, it was time to put Dad in guarded care. With Alzheimer there is this deep sense of home. Home becomes everything. Dad couldn't remember why he was scared he was going to lose it, (he couldn't remember we were already working toward him getting that much needed care), but he was scared. He started telling my sister he was going to use his gun. (We will never know if he was going to kill himself or kill the ones coming to take him away.) So, brother called the cops and asked for help retrieving that gun.

And the cops did "help." Two detectives went to Dad's house with bro, and stood 20 feet away from the door -- either side, not in front of the door -- while bro knocked. After all, Dad bought the gun legal, guns are legal in every state, so they had no right to disarm him. Nor did they have any right to go into his home, since he had done nothing illegal yet.

I can see the cops in Illinois running with the same laws.

(Just so you know, bro did go in, Dad was upset, but Dad walked away from the kitchen table with the loaded gun and the box of bullets. So bro quietly picked them up and left before Dad ever noticed they were missing. And, by that time, Dad never noticed they were missing. Four months later, Dad finally had his court date. It is illegal to put anyone into any kind of mental help placement unless the person is willing to go. The miracle was the judge got Dad to agree to it four times during his court hearing. Truly a miracle.)
 
This will be an interesting test of the 2nd amendment which doesn't specify what type of arms are allowed...

SO does it imply all types of arms are allowed, or can the government (which the amendment was designed to protect against) say what type of arms are allowed.....

AND if they can say what type, then what's to prevent them from restricting everything except slingshots and bb guns?

And we all know who ends up with the groovy guns -- the criminals.

Although, anyone with minimal reading comprehension can read the second amendment and see the founders saying "because of THIS, then THIS" Because the ability to instantly raise a militia is necessary to maintain a free state, the people shall never be prevented from keeping and bearing arms. If it is for the purpose of raising a militia, then the people should have the same weapons that the current military soldier has assigned to him.

But, we all know what happens when "scholars" and lawyers start discussing what the meaning of "is" is.
