I don't really know how to start this letter. I am a christian and I have accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. The issues that I am having with my husband is his family. To him, he feels that I don't have enough God in me to love them completely, flaws and all. Everything about them that frustrate me builds up and often I find myself not wanting to be around them or not wanting to hear about them.

It all started out when she was living out of her car in Washington. My husband asked me if she could move in with us here in Nevada. For some reason, my spirit or my guts was telling me that it wasn't a good idea. She has 3 other older children and one who has her own apartment also living in Washington. Mind you that the daughter who has her own apartment is single with no kids. Yet, she allows her mother to live in her car. My husband and I just got through a rough journey of forgiveness when I committed infidelity and we just had our first child and a new apartment. We've gotten a 2 bedroom, one for us and one for our daughter. Anyways, I never felt right with her staying with us, I felt that my mother in law and I haven't even gotten a chance to build a strong relationship after the infidelity happened, so she kind of had that thought still in the back of her mind and had to be nice to me because she will be living with us. So here she was, moving in with us. I ONLY agreed because, I didn't want to be the person my husband blames if anything was to happen to her. I felt invaded.

She lived with us for 6mths and we didn't make her pay a single penny. Yet she didn't want to lift a finger to help around the house because she felt that she was "MOM" and she shouldn't have to do anything. She only cooked for herself. The only reason why she moved out was because I became pregnant with our second child and this time, we really needed the second bdrm. She was able to get herself an apartment 5 blocks away from our apartment. Although she was no longer living with us, the frustration continues to build up. There was always an issue, whether she needs money, rides, or someone to gossip with in regards to her other children or people at her job. The gossips that she always brings to my husband always frustrate him and it causes the frustrate me.

3 mths later, my sister in law, (who had her own apartment in Washington) decided to quit her job because she felt she wasn't getting paid enough and wanted to receive unemployment. This caused her to loose her apartment and she also did not qualify to receive unemployment. She too, moved to Nevada. Since my mother in law has her own apartment, that's where she stayed. Months after months, they argue with each other about privacy and would bring my husband into it, frustrating him, then seeing him that way, frustrates me. My mother in law complains that she doesn't pay for anything, yet, she forgets the blessing that she received living with us not paying anything. Finally, my sister in law moved out and got her own apartment. This did not make any sense to me because all they have is each other and they don't want to live with each other. They could have saved so much money and by the end of the year would have saved enough to get a car. It's been a yr and half since my sister in law moved to Nevada and they are still catching the bus. Whenever my mother in law gets off work around 9pm, my husband would get worried about her safety, so he would try to pick her up, or whenever the weather is bad, she gets picked up. I feel that she had no intention of wanting to get a car to help herself because she knows her son in there to help her whenever she needs it. They don't even want to save money together, because they don't want to share the car with each other. I understand the bible preaches on helping one another, but is there a limit? Is there anyway for me to feel like I ONLY have 2 kids and not 4 (including my inlaws). It seems as though, they KNOW, that if anything was to happen (whether they need money or ride), her son is just down the street and a phone call away. She has 2 other sons, older than my husband, yet, she doesn't run to them because they will say no and that they have their own family. Well, what about us? We have our own family too. Why are we any different? Because we live down the street and my husband will always say yes? This is so unfair and it's causing a lot of turmoil in my marriage because he feels that I hate his family and that I don't love them and I feel he doesn't understand me and my feelings. There is so much more, but it would lead to a very, very long letter. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this long letter. I am completely open to whatever your responses may be.

Yoiu may not like my answer, but here goes anyway.

Does God make mistakes?

He brought you and your husband together I am sure and your marriage has survived infedelity. Obviously God has helped you in this
When he in His perfect plan for you brought you and your husband together he knew all about your husbands family, and that at times it would be a trial for you. Biut God loves you far more than anyone else can and his plans are always perfect though we with our limited minds do not see the perfect plan God has for each and every one of us.
So if God brought you to marry someone who had a mother and sister such as he has, thank God for them, Really! Remember God's plan is always perfect, we are not called to understand, rather believe. God must have a reason for putting your husbands mother and sister into your life, can you trust him for that. He will honour your faith that He is in charge of this situation, but if you grumble and feel sorry for yourself(though it is understandable given what you have been put through) that is the opposite to faith

All things wpork togetherr for good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose
Rom 8:28

All things means what it says, the bad as well as the good

Livingbygrace .....you can't be serious ? And if you are, I guess 911me should be grateful that her husband doesn't have 14 other siblings in need of her home and her husbands time and attention. Time for the mom-in-law and sister to grow up and fend for themselves ....unless they are not physically or mentally able to. And even then, there are other family members to equally help where possible. If 911me's husband doesn't learn to put his wife and children first, he's going to lose them. No if's, ands, or but's about it. Time for the husband to tell his mom and sis .....I love you guys but I can't do this anymore. It's time for me to look after my own family that God gave me.

"A mother-in-law may do these things because no one else in the family has given her boundaries. Therefore, she becomes an overbearing "bully." Perhaps she does not even realize how intrusive and controlling she is. To her it may just be "loving." If that is the case, perhaps a heart-to-heart talk will clear the air. If she does understand what she is doing and does it on purpose even after she has been asked to stop, then there is nothing that you are going to be able to do to alter that.

A man and woman leave their birth families and begin a new family, and they are to love and protect each other. A husband who allows his mother or his mother-in-law to interfere with his marriage is not living up to the commandment given to husbands in Ephesians 5:25-33. Boundaries need to be set and then held regardless of the resistance encountered. The reality is that people treat us the way we allow them to treat us. If we permit them to trample the sanctity of our family, then that is what they will do. No one, not even our extended family, has the right to invade the privacy of our home, and it is the responsibility of the husband to guard that privacy.

He should remind her that God has given him the responsibility for his family and to relinquish any of that responsibility to her is to disobey God. He should also assure her that he and his wife still love her, but that the relationship has changed and he is in charge now. That is God’s design for the family, and that is the way it will be. Then the couple must stand firm in their resolve.

Parents and in-laws should be treated with respect and love, but we must not allow our emotions to entangle us."

Dealing with a mother-in-law...?

Well said. Helping is one thing......enabling is quite another.

Livingbygrace...What ever happen to "A man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one." Is this no longer a factor because they live down the street? Should he go back to his mother to help her and his own family as well? Doesn't Galatians 6:4-5 teaches you that "For every person will have to bear his own load". My MIL is still young and very active as well as my sister in law and they are capable of taking care of themselves. I care about them, love them and accept all their flaws, but where do you draw the line?

Lightbliss...you described exactly how I feel and what I've told my husband. My MIL knows very well of those commandments, but letting go of the one son that is willing to do anything for her is not an option. After all, 2 of her oldest son are grown and taking care of their own family. I'm not saying that my husband isn't matured, he's just the youngest of 4 and he feels no one else care for her other than him. I don't feel that is necessarily true, I feel that the other siblings are doing just want God commanded them to do and that's take care of their family that God has blessed them with.

A Christian couiple had only one child, a daughter. She became ill and was placed in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors were unable to diagnose an illness concerning the girl.
Earnest prayer went up for the girl in many churches, but to no avail, she did not improve

One day one of the parents was given a book to read from a Christian friend. The author of the book said we should thank God for every circumstance that comes into our lives, trusting that God is in charge and we should trust him that he is
The parent was horrified. How could they thank God that their daughter was in a psychiatric institution and the doctors did not know what was wrong with her. The idea was repugnant to the parent. They both dismissed the book
But their daughters condition did not improve, despite the fervent prayer for her in many churhces
One day, in desperation the parents decided they had nothing to lose, they agreed to thank God their daughter was ill and in a psychiatric unit with no apparent hope of recovery in the forseeable future. They accepted God loved their daughter more than they could and that he had allowed her condition for a reason.

They knelt on the floor and praised and thanked God for the condition their daughter was in

The next day they went to the hospital to visit their daughter. Whereas before they had always been greeted by a blank stare, this time upon seeing her parents the girl called out 'Daddy' and ran up and hugged her Father. The doctors were amazed at the sudden change in the girl. Within two weeks she was released from the hospital and returned home to live a normal life, completely cured

I am not disagreeing with you as how your mother in law and sister should act, but for the situatiuon to be resolved by the power of God I believe if you can(though I accept it is no easy gthing to do) you need to trust without understanding that God is in charge of this situation and thank him for allowing it. You are saved, nothing can happen to you unless God allows it, but I have found that when I grumble about a situation there is no improvement in that situation and I just become miserable.

But if we trust God is in charge and can without any logic at all thank him for why he allowed such a situation to come about, He will act. But we cannot thank God with an eye on the situation changing as we would like it to.

Faith begins where logic ends

What do you have to lose? At least you would have peace if you could believe God is at work in an impossible situation. If you could change the situation yourself you would already have done so, right?

If we grumble about something we are not trusting God is in it.

Not many can from their heart thank God for many circumstances in their lives, but those who have have I believe been greatly blessed. It is one of the highest forms of faith I have ever known
