In Revelation 16:12, is the drying up of the Euphrates River to be taken literally?
YES and NO
“the Euphrates River” - is a symbolic representation of all carnal religious systems of man, that try to take the place of Jesus the Christ in Spiritual discerning the Word of God.
This ignorant system of religions will inevitably/eventually ‘DRY-UP”
Revelation 16:12The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east.
13And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. 14For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15(“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”)
>>>> (a) “the way for the kings from the east.”
These are ; ‘the Elect’ = ‘the called out and chosen few’ = ‘the Sons of God’
The rise from the East ; a ‘NEW DAWN’ of the Lord’s Day(Light)
Revelation 22:16“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
Matthew 4:1“The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light ,And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a Light dawned.”
(b) “Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on”
Jesus spoke on this in many parables. ‘Keeping the garments on’ = the ARMOR of Jesus the Christ.
Romans 13:12
The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Revelation 1:13
and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.
(c) “that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”
When their vain river of flowing water of lies dries up their foundation is exposed as nothing more than rotten bedrock of the secular world, of carnal-man.
Revelation 7:13Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?”
14And I said to him, “Sir, you know.”
So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. 16They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Luke 12:37
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.
1 Thessalonians 5:2
For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10
But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
