And what exactly does this mean if this is true?
I am conflicted about this because this is translated differently in two different translations.
1 John 5:19
English Standard Version
19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
1 John 5:19
King James Version
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
Don't know what to make about that.
I do know this though:
1 John 5:18
King James Version
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
So apparently Satan does not touch Christians. Satan might elsewhere be described in the Bible as the anointed Cherub which covereth if the passage in Ezekiel 28:14 is about him. If this is true this might explain Satan's ability to influence the earth, perhaps in his original function he was meant to bring good tidings or love to everyone? I don't know, just something that seems sensible to me considering this verse. This might just be a poetic descriptor though, not being about him at all actually. In any case he doesn't seem to influence Christians at all.
