Is smoking an electronic cigarette a sin?

I gave up smoking tobacco a few months ago, because I believed it was detrimental to my body. I switched over to an electronic "vaporizer" type device. So, I don't get all the bad stuff that's in tobacco, but I do still get some nicotine. So, would that be considered a sin under my body being a temple of the Lord?

The amount of nicotine you're receiving from the e-cig is significantly less than you were getting from the actual cigarette. But yes, I would think it's still a sin, because you're still putting that chemical into your body. Try sucking on hard candy or mints, or chew alot of gum to take away any cravings you still have. :)

I think you are moving in the right direction! You should be proud of yourself. Soon you should slowly move away from electronic cigarette too and into God given freedom. I actually quit smoking about 12 years ago so I know how it feels-- I quit cold turkey too. Far as it being sin goes, I would just focus on being positive and moving forward away from any type of bondage. Plus it is a complete waste of money. Take care, stay motivated, and push forward!
 
Thanks. I have stepped down the nicotine level since I started. The nice thing about it is I can step all the way down to zero eventually. I've got some major problems in my life that are out of the norm or I would probably just set it down. I know that sounds weak, but that's the way it is. I'm dealing with some serious stress. I'm just glad I haven't went back to tobacco.
 
Yes and no. Nowhere in the Bible does the Holy Spirit say smoking is a sin. But the Holy Spirit does say that if do something that you think is a sin then its a sin for you to do it. Romans 14 talks about it.
 
how many of you that post on this site no longer sin? i would really like to know who is with out sin?

For the record I used to smoke like a chimney but gave it up 1982.

I do not believe smoking is a sin. I am well aware we have to take care of Gods temple and defiling it is a sin. Jesus said it is not what you put into your mouth that makes you sick. It is what comes out that makes you sick. However addiction is a sin and many are addicted to tobacco.
George Burns a famous highly successful comedian lived to age 100 was asked age 99 what does you doctor say about your smoking. As he drew mouthful of smoke, tapped the ashes of his giant trade mark cigar he said "I don't know, he died 30 years ago. My point is not to argue or be controversial. It is to repeat what Jesus said in opposition to the wisdom of the world. It is not what you put into your mouth that makes you sick. It is what comes out. cursing and swearing and expressions of our wicked desires. Fact is because many think it is sin it is act of love to quit so they won't think a Christian smoker is sinning. and if you think it a sin and you smoke it is because you are going against your own values. but no where in scripture is tobacco mentioned except every green plant is food. I am trying to stress we need to know difference between worldly wisdom and what God says is true. If we are going to get cancer because of our wicked desires, quitting smoking will not stop illness.

This is nothing but rationalization to continue to sin. just because we sinned (past tense) does not mean we cannot say today rather than sin I am going to praise the Lord and thank him. People that say things like you said do not believe Jesus said "see, you are well now. stop your sinning or else something worse will happen.

you do not know the teachings of righteousness and mock those of us that practice them. Shame on you.

Smoking is a sin. Anything that hurts the body is self-mutilation. Philippians 3:2 says to watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. I would take it as far as saying that you can also interpret where it says dogs as what Proverbs says about dogs, how they return their own vomit. To return to vomit is addiction. smoking is addictive because of the chemicals. chemicals are drugs when used to alter your mood. they call it getting high. cigarettes are drugs. hence, FDA... food and drug administration. the fda wouldn't have to have approved cigarettes if it was a class of drug. and it is certainly not food. i cannot believe to hear christians saying that smoking is not a sin. nicotene is the addictive chemical in cigarettes, it is also with e-cigs that nicotene is provided for.
 
Sometimes in winning the battle against bad habits, we have to view it through a graph lens.
Picture your behavior as a line graph, where the line is sloping downward.

I would consider moving from cigarettes to electronic cigarettes as another step in the right direction, moving that sloping line down further. The end goal not doing this at all.

Keep asking God for strength and wisdom through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome this.

I could get into the is it a sin or isn't it a sin debate, but I think most agree that getting off of this stuff is the ideal.
 
Sounds like a step in the right direction to me. Electronic cigarettes seem to be getting very popular! I deliver mail to a business called "Vapor UP" and they get a lot of customers. I've been delivering an increasing number of packages to 7th Heaven and the lady who works there told me the packages contain electronic cigarettes. They even come in several different flavors.
 
So.....smoking is a sin, but getting a sugar rush from tons of candy as a replacement is not a sin? And also i suppose overeating/glutony/coffee rush are definitely not sins either...those are the ones the church seems to consistently turns a blind eye to. Ok, whatever!

It's also been proven that your brain responds to sugar exactly the same way as cocaine, the other white stuff. Our bodies were meant to eat clean, whole natural unprocessed foods...the perimiter of the supermarket, nothing in the aisles. So eating processed sugar in ANY amount is also mutilating your body in giving yourself a myriad of health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and the like. It's a wonder why sugar (or even caffeine) is not demonized as much as the really "bad" drugs. Yes, sugar is a drug and extremely addictive. If you have ever had a sugar "high" you know what i'm talking about. That's why it hurts our bodies the way it does, especially in excess.
 
Brother Musclecar As you well know there are many things that are bad for us to eat,drink, and smoke. So rather then me judging you on what you should do,please understand this.( rom 14:10-23) now while true this is talking about meat,this can hold true for anything you allow in faith.

If we can bless what we do in Jesus name, then how can another judge that?? lol But many do judge another don't they? Jesus was judged as well ( matt 11:24-30)by others,so what makes us think we will not be? Is being over weight a sin to? To many it is! My pastor was asked about this,and was told by some he needs to lose some weight, because to them he has become a bad example.He smiled and said I am a bit larger then some,to make more room for Holy Spirit who loves me just as i am,why as a child of God can you not do the same?? You get the point!! amen! Do not allow the fear of others to become part of your life! I am thankful to Jesus i sure don't!
 
I appreciate all the responses! My grandpa was a Baptist preacher and once told me that he didn't believe smoking was a sin. I have gotten closer to God since then and I'm just not sure. Either way, I don't think it's a good WITNESS for me to smoke anything, same as drinking. So I'm working on giving it up and I will very soon.
