Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

“…that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16

The aim has always been this: That men will see your good works and bring glory to God , not to you.

Dear you,
Haven’t you, sometimes, made your good works more about the praise of men than the glory of God?

Be honest.

Sometimes, the drive isn’t really about blessing lives or reflecting Christ —
It’s about hearing, “Ah, you’re so good!”
“You really did well!”
“You’re so talented!”

We start doing things because this person will say, that person will notice, they’ll feel me, they’ll know I know my onions, and let’s be real; wanting people to recognize your skill or patronize your work isn’t a bad thing, excellence deserves visibility, but the danger comes when the focus shifts — when it becomes ego-driven.

When, if no one praises you, you start to feel unseen then you begin to dim your light because no one is clapping, but remember, the aim has never changed. Your light was never meant to draw attention to you; it was meant to draw attention to Him.

The applause of men fades quickly, but when your motive is to glorify God, your impact becomes eternal.

So, shine, yes, but shine with the right heart.
Let your works speak of His grace, your creativity reflect His wisdom, your excellence reveal His beauty, because at the end of the day, It’s not about who sees you; It’s about who they see through you.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Great post, thanks for sharing!!

This has been a big struggle in my life, not gonna lie. Fearing man's opinion, seeking man's approval/appreciation/adoration, people pleasing, being a glory-stealer. Such a distraction and so tiring! Not to mention prideful.

Some things are deeply ingrained in us and it takes time for the Lord to prune them out of us. Well, needless to say He's still workin on me 😅 But, by His grace, there has been progress 🙂🌱 God is so good to continue the good work He began in us.

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 1:6
