Jesus is God in First John! Jesus is God in Matthew! Jesus is God when he came, through the Holy Spirit! He was in the beginng of creation and in the beginning he was born with no earthly Father. His Father is God. He is God the Son. He was "slain (killed) before the foundation (beggining) of the world!

AMEN. Jesus Christ is true God and true man, God from God, Light from Light, Begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father, through Whom all things were made. He is begotten eternally of the Father before all ages. In Erie PA Scott R. Harrington

No, he was not wrong. The Father is the only true God, and the Father is not Jesus. However, Jesus is also the only true God.
