At the moment I am looking for work and so far times have been tough.
I noticed an advert for an adult novelty store that is looking for a sales assistant; this particular store is a fair short walk from where I live so it would be convenient for me as I don't have an independant driver's license (let alone any license).

Of course, I am desperate for a job, and I would apply for this if it meant I had a good shot at gaining the position, but considering that this is an adult store - a purveyor of pornographic material and such - I have fear that working there may awaken some sort of carnal urge, and I struggle with masturbation as it is.

Do you think that a Christian would be able to safely work at a store of this nature without being influenced? In the name of getting a job, I need some help urgently.

Just sharing my opinion here. I really don't think you want to be there as a Christian. By working there and marketing those products/movies you will be encouraging others to sin and also you can fall victim to the temptation cause you will be surrounded and interacting with the products/movies on a daily basis.

GREETINGS

My personal opinion is, no you shouldnt!! Just pray and have faith and God will find you a job, if you want sin in your life go ahead. But it is all wrong. Adam and Eve knew it was wrong to eat the fruit but they ended up disobeying God, they wanted to try that could happen to you also they looked at the fruit more than once and when the snake came up to them and started to talk they ended up failing, people could come up to you just like that snake, And if people see you working in an adult store what do you think theyw ill think?, its a bit Dangerous, i will be praying for you!! hope i didnt sound 2 harsh, take care young one ;) This is just my personal opinion and based on the Bible....

Times are rough as far as getting a job here too, and I weirdly enough was in the same position as you a few days ago, a simmiler type of store was hiring in my area, and I thought about applying, as i am having trouble at my work,I prayed about it and decided it wasn't something I would feel comfortable with my Christian friends knowing about, so I decided not to apply. But I digress, pray about it. But I would be concerned about giving the devil a foothold, especially if that is an area of weakness. If you need further council, feel free to send me a message

Before I believed in Jesus I had been to a few adult book stores and believe me they are no place for a christian. Not only because of temptation but because they are just really disgusting. Imagine images of things you shouldn't be looking at literally everywhere around you, on the walls, on the shelves, counters, everywhere. I don't think I'd even work there if i wasn't a christian. Plus you would have to answer customers' questions. Imagine someone asking you which porno would be better to watch, or where is the (fill in nasty, kinky subject here) section? Yuk!

Dude, no offence but you are 18, you barely cut the legal age so they may not even hire you (customers buying porn and vibrators from someone out of highschool... thats disturbing.. )

Plus the fact that you struggle with masturbation just answers your question right there. You'll just be putting more (petrol doused) wood on the fire so to speak. If your a Christian, think of a few things. If your single and looking, how do you think a young woman would feel knowing you work there (especially if you're trying to be celibate). Also, any potential colleagues you'd have would definitely not encourage your relationship with Jesus and in fact would be gobsmacked, they would either harass and sullify your beleifs or try their hardest to pull you away from it or both.

Please please PLEASE don't work there. Pray for another job opportunity elsewhere. God will honour that request. Nothing is too hard for him.

As I see it, asking oneself: 'will I be putting myself in the line of temptation?', while prudent, is not the most pressing concern. The main question here is: 'is it ethical to actively particpate in the selling of pornography?' I don't believe it is.

It sounds as if you are being tested. God knows your situation. He wants you to trust Him to deliver you through this difficult period of your life so that you can grow in faith and give Him the praise and glory. My prayers are with you.

Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you do it and He will. Psalms 37:5 (TLB)

RUN!!!!!!! AWAY!!!!!!!!! You wouldn't jump in a tank full of sharks with blood on your shorts, right? Don't jump in a den of demon's and think they want bite :) Jesus will provide, let this testing of your faith stretch you and grow you.

If you want a quick answer, don't! "Jesus said to his disciples: 'Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck...'" (Luke 17:1-2, emphasis added)

I don't believe that any red-blooded man or woman can work in an adult bookstore and still maintain pure thoughts.

I'm joining the others in voting "Don't Do It!" I join you in prayer as you continue your job search where the Lord can use you as a light in a very dark world...just not that dark world of selling pornography. God bless you, brother!

You will be influenced. Don't do it. Stay away from the place. Offer it up as a sacrifice and ask God to find you a decent job.

I know all about the porn world. I've been there. Its bad news.
