Chapter 2: The Divinity of Christ
I am not going to spend a lot of time on this simply because there are numerous Threads here that debate the Divinity of Christ. However, to follow the Laundry List, i will provide my beliefs and Scriptures to support those beliefs.
For one to believe in the Divinity of Christ, one must believe in the Holy Trinity. One must believe that Christ is fully God. While here on earth, He was fully man and fully God.
There is one powerful Scripture that encapsulates all the evidence I need to believe that Jesus Christ is God, God the Son, 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity. Christ Himself speaks:
The Gospel of John, Chapter 8:
56) Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57) Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
This statement alone is enough to prove His Divinity. Were He not God the Son, God the Father would have never allowed Him to pretend that He was, for God Himself declared who He is.
Exodus, Chapter 3:
13) And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14) And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15) And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
God declares that He is I AM! Jesus declared to the Jews who questioned Him "I AM." Were it not so, God the Father would never have allowed Him to make such a statement for God is not a liar!
Additional Scriptures:
John 10:30) I and my Father are one.
Matthew 1:23) “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Isaiah 7:14) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7) If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8) Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
There are other Scriptures, but these serve to give me full assurance of the Divinity of Christ. And, as I stated in the beginning, that one statement by Christ to the Jews who questioned Him is ALL the proof I need to believe!
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
