What is this feeling washing over me?
Waves of emptiness, my soul knows no peace;
Why must I be so downcast, ill at ease?
Will the return of love and joy never be?

Panpipe tunes drift, full of melancholy,
Pleasure in life has gone, I feel woebegone,
Peace of mind eludes me: Is it what is done?
Placing head in hands I ponder folly.

My feet and hands are cold, my heart so old,
Many random thoughts tease my troubled mind,
Then I remember, anchored is my soul,
Secure in Christ and to His Cross inclined.
