So here's the deal, I've been in the air force almost 4 years and i'm getting a PCS (permanent change station) to sigonella naval air station...ITALY...which is in sicily...I'll be there for 3 years, by then I'll be 25 and i have no idea where i'll go next after that. I am a little nervous that if I go there, i'll be alone for 3 years +, and I'll be 25, which...to me, is getting a little old not to be starting to get into something more serious...What should I do? Learn italian? lol.

But really. Totally different culture...different life style...different people... ahh But...it is europe!!! once in a lifetime thing to do for me! I'll love it but I dont want to be alone that long and My parents are 60, I want them healthy enough to see me get married at least. I'll be 22 in march btw. Advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I had a friend in High School who lived in Italy for a few years because her dad was stationed there. While she did learn some Italian, it wasn't a requirement. You will be on a base afterall, so everyone there will speak English. She said she loved it in Italy, and made some good friends there. Said the Italians were very nice.

I don't know if you make friends easily, but I imagine there will be many airmen and women there who will be close to your age and looking for new friends as well. They will all be experiencing a new culture and such just like you and will be looking for familiarity. My brother got stationed in Guam for a while, and what helped him was to have some friends around.

Also, make sure you try and find some Christians to associate with. Find a church home or a life group or something.

I don't know what your plans are for after the AF, but I figure the most common options are to stay in for 20 years and then retire with benefits or finish your assignment and then leave the air force and go to college. They will pay for you to go to college, right? It is up to you, though, to decide what you want to do with your life. You will have three years to think about it and pray about it. What are your hobbies, talents, what do you enjoy doing most? Maybe you can find a career based on that. In any case, you are a single airman, so you can be saving up money while figuring this stuff out, so that is good.

As for getting married, don't sweat it. 25 isn't that old, and you're only 21 right now. Just don't become so desperate that you rush into the first marriage that presents itself. Wait on the Lord, and trust that He will provide you with the right woman if you are willing to work for it.

Wow you're concerned about going to another country for three years? Learn the language. You loose out on a lot if you dont. Secondly, 25 isn't old. People get married in their 30s you know. Thirdly, you might meet an Italian girl (you never know). Forthly, you know how many penniless underprivilaged stuck 20-somethings (including myself) would KILL for an oppertunity to live in a foreign country? Seriously count your blessings.

To me 25 is getting old for that stuff because My parents are getting old/unhealthy, and I dont want them to miss out on stuff like that, I know how lucky i am to get to go there and all that stuff, i'm not just complaining to complain, I'm stoked about it, I just dont want to have so much fun and end up alone

Remember this important Itallian phrase.
"ciao, I' m. un giovane cristiano americano. Siete singolo? Sì? Volete un marito? Come circa un greencard?"
which means
"hello ma'am, I'm a young American Christian. Are you single? Yes? Do you want a husband? How about a greencard?"

It was meatballs, and I think so. I guess it's meant to be eaten on a plate, and not in a mug. But answer me this, why do they have the mugs in the same general area of the buffet as the sauces?

well lol I can suggest you a nice church in Catania, they should also have some interpreters.
Anyway my advice is this: ok you're 26 (not so old at all) it's ok that there could be many temptations in italy but don't give your self up to those things if you'll really trust God it's just an opportunity to grow more (also if you're 26 we never stop getting better)
