Okay, so I have this dream. It wasn't a dream like when you sleep, it was more of an epiphany that hit me while i was in the shower one day lol. I swear God slapped me with this sign so hard I was half way to Him! Anyways, someday I really REALLY want to start an organization that will be dedicated to serving. I truly believe that as followers of Christ that we are called to be servants. So here's the dream:
Imagine a big ol' hospital building. Now take out the hospital part of it, so you just have the big ol' building. I want the building to have different sections in it that pertain to different forms of serving. Like one section can be dedicated to missions. So let's say a youth group, or a church, or even a family or individual can walk in and get plugged into a mission. And the missions would be locally, nationally, globally, etc. Maybe somebody's house burned down and they need some help, or maybe we have a group of people God has called to another place and somebody wants to join. We'd have many many many missions come through people who have been called by God for one reason or another.
Another section can be dedicated to the homeless. Perhaps we have other off-site locations that we use as facilities to offer temporary free living for the homeless. We would offer the locations as a place to wash, eat, sleep,etc. as well as have a program set up to help them find jobs. Not jobs like McDonalds, but rather jobs sufficient enough to support themselves or their families.
Another section could possibly be in the medical field. A common problem I don't think a lot of people realize is the expenses on medications. I know that there are many people who need a medication for heart problems, or all sorts of other medical conditions, but the prices for those prescriptions can be through the roof a lot of the time! Maybe we can have a system set up to where the organization pays for a huge chunk of the prices, that way we are able to offer the medications needed by many at a very discounted price?
Another wing could be dedicated to fund raising for causes or events. This section would be in charge of putting together events that raised money, raised awareness, etc. for situations around the globe. Maybe to raise money for a mission trip, or for preventing AIDS in Africa, or for shoes for the hundreds of thousands without them, etc.
There are a whole lot more ideas, but these were just a few that I wanted to throw out there. I was kind of hoping maybe for some feedback? I'm only 20 years old and currently had to take a semester off of college. So needless to say this whole concept could happen many many years from now. But I'm on God's time, not my own, so I'm NOT in a hurry to get this done at all. I feel like God has totally drawn me to this idea, like i said, He nearly through me through the shower wall it hit me so hard lol. I guess the biggest reason I'm putting this out here (and this is indeed the first time i have mentioned this to any kind of public...) is to get some feedback on it. I really feel this entire organization is to be COMMUNITY driven, not business driven. To provide more opportunities for countless others to be able to serve in ways they may not otherwise have been accessible to do so. In reading all i have written so far, do you guys feel that this would be an interesting idea? Something maybe you would even get involved with? I'm EXTREMELY curious/nervous to hear replies, but also REALLY appreciate criticism... lol. Okay, I think i've typed WAY too much now and you guys are probably ready to throw me through the shower wall too lol
