I was lying in bed relaxing next to my husband who was asleep. It was summertime and it was still very light. I remember being very relaxed and tired. I started feeling like I was sinking into the bed, then feeling like I was rising above my body. I couldn't move or call out for help. I was frantic because it was very frightening, the helplessness and lack of any control to get back. I couldn't open my eyes, talk or move.
I started saying the Lord's prayer in my mind and that was hard at first but became easier as I prayed.
Then a whosssssh sound happened and I slammed back into my body. My eyes flew open and I saw all these pink, purple, and blue lights fly out the window. I shot up to a sitting position woke my husband and told him. He said I was dreaming and stop the nonsense. I was so frightened. I went to my son's room and placed a St. Christopher pendent around his neck and had him sleep with it for a long time until we moved. I felt it was evil, or else why would the Lords prayer make it leave so quickly.
I knew nothing about astral projection and my friend later told me I should have gone with it and traveled around the world, I feel it was bad or I wouldn't have been so afraid and the Lord's prayer wouldn't have sent it away.
Any comments would be appreciated,
Sherrymerry

Don't worry, this clearly was just a bad dream!

You panicked though, but the Lord's Prayer obviously made you calm again.
Praise the Lord!

Only if you take your dream too seriously, like your friend did,
and see it as an actual "astral projection,"
you're moving into the realm of the occult.
I would suggest you pray for your friend instead.

And by the way: the use of pendents to ward of the Evil One
is superstition too, trincits won't keep your son safe,
you should pray over him instead.

yes this is called Astral Projection.
it is dangerous as you can be in the presence of evil that can torment you or take over your body.
I am sure it was a evil presence lifting up your body and since you prayed, the evil flew out the window.

But why would you use a 'St. Christopher pendent'? don't you have a 'cross'? or do you believe a pendent would protect your son?
trust in God not in materials.

And next time you have it...do not go out of the world...astral projection is too dangerous

You were not dreaming. This was a temptation from the Evil One, and the sense of fear was the proof. If you fell for it, the next step would have been getting you to explore the "lower regions of the heavens" where you get to interact with powers, demons, principalities, etc., who are all supposed to be under your feet in Christ, and not creatures you visit for recreation. Many have gotten far from God, thinking they were doing something He wanted.

The same thing is what happened to me when I tried it, and what happened to my wife when she tried it. Being scared you won't get back in seems normal for Christians. It's what seems to happen to all God's servants when they try it. You don't have to leave your body to get someplace else, like the occult would have you believe. You only have to let God take you where you are needed, like Phillip to the Ethiopian eunuch, or Elijah ahead of King Ahaz, or Jesus from Jerusalem to the road to Emmaus.

The Evil One could not have performed this stunt without God's permission. Often it is a sign that God has something more for you in a similar area. Does the line in the Psalms "If I go to the heavens, you are there, etc." imply that the psalmist had tried it? Certainly Paul knows a man (probably himself) who made it to the third heaven, and who may have been "in the body or out of the body"; and surely, this is a different experience, as no fear is mentioned.

A comment about the medal: my wife and I learned a long time ago to trust our righteousness earned by Jesus, and nothing else, but we are all growing.

I would have been 'beside myself"

What does "beside myself" mean:

"Beside" was formerly (15th through 19th centuries) used in phrases to mean "out of a mental state or condition, as 'beside one's patience, one's gravity, one's wits'" (Oxford Engl. Dict.), and that use survives only in "'beside oneself': out of one's wits, out of one's senses."

"Beside himself". Why do we describe a distraught person as being 'beside himself'? Because
the ancients believed that soul and body could part and that under great emotional stress the soul would actually leave the body. When this happened a person was 'beside himself.' This same thought is to be found in 'out of his mind'; and in 'estasy' too. 'Ecstasy' is from the Greek and literally means 'to stand out of.'" From "Dictionary of Word Origins" by Jordan Almond (Carol Publishing Group, Secaucus, N.J., 1998).

never "go with it". these types of experiences are not necessarily experiences from God. OBEs are dangerous. this sounds a lot like sleep paralysis as well. a lot of people report hearing the whoosh sound and leaving their bodies.

just pray and ask for Jesus to help you if this happens again. the lords prayer was a good idea.

How is that any different than a pendant? Crosses hold no magic powers anymore than pendants dedicated to dead people.

One of my extremely close friends had an almost identical experience and honestly, I was not so sure it was not demonically inspired at the time. She then got into astral projection full time and yeah, demonic would definitely be the word for what she became. Five exorcisms later and she is definitely not the young woman we all knew and loved. Trembling edge of reality would be more the description.....

Has anyone seen the movie insidious? that movie scares me to death because these people actually leave their bodies and travel to the world of the dead and if the dead notice you are actually alive they will head towards your body and live as you. my assumption is if your soul is leaving your body and you not only feel fear but you cannot feel any essence of god then pray instantly.

I don't think people how easy it is to invite Satan into your mind and into your life. Or maybe they really do desire his presence.

But the bible is clear on God's thoughts about this.

From The Occult :
Today, many people dabble in the mystical, occultic arts. Is there anything wrong with being involved in these practices? Yes, the Bible takes a clear position on this subject, strongly denouncing these practices. God created us and therefore owns us. He has a right to set the rules for our lives. God’s Word indicates that these practices are part of Satan’s strategy of evil tricks and deception, designed to lead us astray. Satan and his demons are real beings set on our destruction. Christians are warned to…
“put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:11-12).
Concerning occult practices, the Israelites were told:
“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire [an ancient occult practice], or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination [detestable] to the LORD…”
Deuteronomy 18:9-12a

I just have one thing to say. I am in no way judging what this experience was. I have no idea. But fear IS NOT an automatic sign its the enemy. Fear was the reaction of every person visited by angels or God himself.

I also believe it was sleep paralysis. If it were that, there is nothing to worry about.

I agree here... And like someone noted earlier, Satan has to go through God to get to us... His Children.
When something is unknown to us, we react with our flight or fight response because we live in a world that we tend to guard our hearts with walls rather than wearing our hearts on our sleeves with selfless love... So we can't just assume this in an occult practice because God communicated in dreams since the beginning.. And in order to get into that experience, one must enter deep REM cycle of sleep, which is requires complete relaxation and mindfulness as well. Just remember, God is omnipotent... This is key because He can do and use anything He wants to bring glory to the Kingom. We all have a different path but various ways to get to the same place as God sets our path and purpose before us... Whether we embrace it and/or trust Him, is completely up to us through free will.

My advice is to just pray about it and listen to what the Holy Spirit says, not any of us man here... Only God knows His intentions which are always good and perfect for us. You wont be disappointed... I am a witness to that. Follow His heart and don't let man discourage u or steal the glory of what God wants to show you. We have power and authority as Children of God... All we must do is shine the Light to the world and trust our God with everything.

To God be the glory... Forever and ever :)
God Bless!

Sherrymerry was very afraid. Ray Stevens does not appear to be, in that picture, and occult practicioners do not seem to be, either. The fear is the big giveaway over who was causing it, even if it was physically sleep paralysis, or some kind of dream.
