I don't know if you guys have gotten a chance to see this but there will soon be a new hate crime law. Now while the law makes it illegal for people to commit violent crimes against gay people, which for most people seems like a good thing. Now while I do not disagree completely with the law, because violence against anyone should be illegal anyway, I feel this is a trojan horse designed to target the church. The way the law works is if any violent act is a result of speaking against a certain sexual orientation or race, then the person "responsible" for speaking can be arrested, even if the person did not even order a violent attack. It is more based on silencing free speech than it is preventing crime, as preachers who preach against homosexuality will be blamed for "spreading hate". Brave new world.

It should at least stop people saying "God hates fags" in public yeah? I can't see how saying "God loves homosexuals" can result in violent acts being committed against the homosexual. Anyone who works in a regular job these days knows they can't go around saying anything against other races or genders or religions or cultures or you might get fired so I think we're used to it, at least I am.
In fact it can work to the Christian's advantage too - I assume that Christians are not excluded from these laws? As a Christian you wouldn't want to be victimised by a group of homosexuals in the work place or muslims would you?

You mean ENDA? I hear that it will also force Christian-based organizations to hire homosexuals even if it's against their doctrine of faith or something like that. I don't think people understand it as well as they think they do. The name of the proposed bill is named quite deceptively to make it sound like a "hate crime" law.

Here's Focus' take on the bill: http://www.citizenlink.org/dailybroadcast/A000011202.cfm

You are right. The laws are more about taking away free speech.
God bless, pickles

Well, if it pushes through for the USA, then it might spread up to Canada. :(

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I completely agree that while violence against any person, committed as a result of having hatred for the individual, is unacceptable. However, after researching this bill I have found that additional aspects of this bill are slipping through under the guise of protecting America's citizens.

I've found that Military pay, benefits, and weapons programs, are also authorized under this bill. This is a potential fast track to military intervention whenever the government believes it's necessary. Once the law passes, (and it will), with Federal assistance being provided to local and state authorities, I believe that eventually, we can begin to expect searches, seizures, and false arrests. I believe that similar bills will soon be introduced with hidden attempts toward the eventual disarming of gun owners. Ultimately, Christianity is, has been, and will be the target, as our own government and state leaders become more anti-Christic by the day.

This is simply one more step toward eventually eliminating any opposition to the perversness of homosexuality in our society which has already influenced many aspects of american culture, and furthers the governmental agenda to remove even the most basic freedoms from its citizens in an attempt to create it's own sense of order .
