Hi all

Just thought i'd share what i learned last night. I was raised in a 'church going family', and we weren't even good at that, haha. I was saved at 14. I've had a very difficult walk. For 22 years i felt something was wrong with my walk, and i couldn't figure out what, or how to fix it. I would sometimes be amazed at how personal peoples walks with God were, but always felt God was distant. Sure, there were times i knew God had done things, and i 'understood' that God is always there. But still, i felt disconnected.
I recognized this problem i had over the years, it would come to me on and off, but never really sink in. And even when i did see it, i didn't know how to handle it. Maybe thats why i kept pushing it away. Anyways, the past two years i've experienced a lot of growth in different areas of my faith. Its been great, but something was still missing. Then here came that old thought i kept pushing away. And this time i decided to deal with it. I didn't know how, but i knew this was central to a lot of problems in my life and faith. I've enjoyed being a Christian. I've enjoyed the things i've done over the years as acts of service to God and others. But, no matter how glad i was... i learned i didn't 'love' God. Its kind of a shocking thing to admit to yourself after 20 years of trying to tell yourself otherwise. But it made sense. This is what has been missing.
So two years ago i set out to figure out why, and how to change that. My first thought was 'personal baggage', or maybe 'personality problems'. For example, close friends. The closest friends i've ever had, i never thought 'i love them'. Not even a friendship love. Not that i didn't care, i just didn't love. Even if they told me they loved me as a friend, i let them know not to expect to hear it back. So, this is the kind of thing i thought was my problem, so i thought i just needed to 'make' myself love God. I've been trying that for two years, no success. But last night, the light bulb came on.
What i learned was, i was trying to love God first, i felt i had to love God, so that God could in turn love me. Now, in my head i knew that wasn't how it worked. If you had asked me if i felt that way i'd have said no and meant it. But somehow, in my search, i got it backwards. I finally learned you don't teach yourself to love God, but you let yourself be loved by God. My love for God doesn't stem from, or grow from my own heart, my own abilities, or efforts. Gods love plants itself in me, and it draws out my love, so that love can grow towards Him. I mean, lets face it, have you ever had someone that you didn't love, love on you? Ever had a stranger or someone you barely know go out of their way in your time of need? Maybe repeatedly? Or someone who always finds a way to compliment you, even though you never return it? What happens? You can't help it, you draw closer to them. And now i know, thats what i need to do. I need to stop 'trying' to love God, and let God love me. Only then can i learn to love God back.

thanks for that, you might have saved many people time myself included to learn that

hope you have a good day

Brother Ugly. First I wish I could grow a bead as good as you do!! Second you are far from ugly! To think on why one would use a user name such as this, can also help speak on where your mind is at as well. I could not agree with you more, on letting God love us!!There is another lesson brother I also hope you will learn. There is no such word as try. LOL

We do not try at anything,we either are able to do something or, at least for that moment we are not able. There are two things in your life which you have control of. Unless someone has a brain injury of course. You have control on what you think, and for how long you dwell on it,and you have control of your body, though many do not take control of either. They use the word try as there excuse for there failure to do this.I know!! LOL I used to do the very same thing!!

You see my brother we tend to dwell much on what we deserve not to have,as a reason not to have it.God does not have any reason not to love you, because he created you, with special talents another brother,or sister has need of! Words spoken mean so VERY MUCH!! And how we speak them means even more! My gift in Jesus does not stem for my great wisdom!!LOL No my brother,it comes from the very same and loving God who made us all!Jesus who lives in me, brings out words others no matter what age can understand.

Many may not always agree!!! LOL But that is not my problem! To grow in our Jesus as I have spoken much before depends greatly on the time we spend with him! How much our eyes are off of ourselfs and our lack, and how to place those eyes upon our Jesus whom we follow. What does his Word say about us? How can we bring our feeling into line with God's own Word? This we strive for my brother, this is how we grow, and, help another to do the very same! For love does such things!

We always know of our own lack my brother,we know this because we understand what the word humble means, humble in Christ is not kicking ourselves,or beating ourselves up! Humble is knowing that only through our Lord Jesus in us,can we attain that which he desires for us.( john 15:11-17!!!)The command to love!! Not try to,and how my brother we do this,is by learning through Holy Spirit in us,how God can love us!( Psalm 103:8-17!!)

I present the Word to you,not to boast!!But rather to show you what Jesus said, rather then my own lacking words I could have used.Do or do not! When we get before the throne of God, saying to Jesus I tried,he will say this back!(rev 3:16) Many believers not you,but many are on the fence of life, they do not wish to walk the narrow road all the times, they need some room. The problem I have found with taking room, is that we give room to the enemy as well in our loves! ( eph 4:27) Do not give the devil an opportunity!! WHY??? LOL

Because he will always take it!Ask Job!! Ask Judas. Judas was a thief!!( john 12:6)( john 13:29) remind you of a scripture?? ( john 10:10)By being one Judas gave the devil every opportunity! So bad was Judas, that satan entered him himself!!! ( luke 22:3!!) Cannot get much worse then that! For todays believer there is a question, what side will I go one? This my brother I judge not any!! I only wish to present the side that has love on it always!

Will we be a sheep, which follows our Shepherd? Or the goat, the one who leads others to darkness? ( Matt25:31-46) In the end my brother, it is not what we tried to do,it is about what we did,or did not do!! May every blessing find you,and always find you most well!! If you wonder does Jesus speak to us? I believe Jesus in me, has answered you. Blessing bro!

Amen! my friend, let God love you (and me).
And as He loves us, and changes our hearts, and conforms us to the image of His Son (!!), our names change, too.

They become, Beloved, Beautiful, Wanted, Adored, Friend, Bride. ♥
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you here, and am so glad to have "met" you.
