Is it alright to take medicine every day for your back if you truly need it?

I have broken my back twice. Once in the lower section and the second time involved 13 seperate fractures. I pretty much hurt all the time, some times more than others.

What if the medicine that worked for you was illegal in he USA?

(Maybe other medicines would take the pain away, but either made you very sleepy or had other bad side effects.)

um. . . . . .i guess that a matter of knowing yourself.

my best friend used to abuse medicine when she was little so she WON'T take ANY kind of medicine unless its absolutely necessary. even allergy medicine. >_< she just tries to tough it out as long as she can. just to make sure that shes not making excuses like she used to so she could take the medicine.

but what you've been through sounds fairly painful and I'm sure your back hurts a lot. knowing me i'd totally be drugged up all the time (i don't like pain. >_<) but i guess that a decision you're going to have to make for yourself. be careful about how you take it and instead of just getting into a routine ask yourself if you REALLY need the medicine or if you're just taking it cause you want to.

you also might want to talk to a doctor who would know more about the kind of pain people usually go through after injuries like yours and what their medication intake is like.

(thats what i would do anyway. >_^ best of luck)

I see no "Christian" arguments against it

One warning though, in case the dr's didnt tell you, many pain medicines, if used often/ a lot, can after some time start to cause pain.
Make sure you talk to dr's about it if you feel unsure. Also, if there are other things you can do to ease the pain, that might help you use less medicine.

You might want to see a physiotherapist, I would not advise a chiropractor as although there are many good reports medical research shows that they can also cause a lot of damage. I agree with above, make sure you really need to take it and its not just part of a routine, also remember that some medications cause a dependence even if you are not abusing them so ensure the pain you feel is not a withdrawal.
If you would like to talk more about this feel free to pm me.

Thank You guys, I have seen a doctor and I just wanted to seek advise from others.

Pain medicine abuse is a major problem these days.

Moderation is the key, I pray it does not become a habit/cruch for me.

I can't think of a scriptural basis against it unless one is abusing them.
All that jazz about not trusting God enough to manage your pain?? Stop eating chocolate when you're down.. stop drinking coffee when you're tired.. stop sipping water to moisten your throat... maybe if you trusted God more you wouldn't ever get down, tired or a dry throat.
We're physical beings in a fallen world. If 'something' can help you be happier and healthier, allowing you to concentrate more on the Lord (note the qualifier), rather than writhing in agony all day... better stop before i hop up on my fancy pants soap box.
