The New Testament teaches that we must continue in faith until the end.

However that being said, the parable is not about born again Christians and backsliding. It is a parable to teach the Pharisees that their attitude about being upset that sinners where eating with Jesus was wrong. He is saying they are like the elder brother in this parable and they should be glad that sinners who need to repent were interested in what Jesus was teaching.

But as to Christians that backslide and start drinking and fornicating and bar hopping. If they keep living that way they will go to hell.

that ole Parable of the "Prodigal Son," who had glory and salvation, then THREW IT ALL AWAY [backslide]. let's stop there.

if the lost son remained backslidden, is he still saved?

or, was it when he repented and returned back to his father that he regained his position of salvation?

surely, had he remained backslidden and died, he had no salvation, true?
Not true.
The Prodigal was always the Father's son. Even when he was away squandering his inheritance.

Are we to presume the son who went broke is related to us and our being in the Father's salvation? Can we 'spend' our salvation if we backslide so to be unsaved, broke, eventually? The same way the Prodigal went bust in a short time and returned to his father penniless?

The Prodigal returned home and his father wept with happiness and called for a celebration. Because the son returned to the fold and was still, forever, his child.

While the Prodigal's brother was angry that this was allowed given his faithfulness to the father all along.

We don't ever lose our salvation.

Bart Erhman, professed Atheist, current Bible Scholar, was a preacher until he concluded God is not real. but he knew the Bible well so becoming a Scholar seemed to be a logical step. he currently debates professing Christians and takes the position the Bible is a myth and God is a fable. he once was saved. now he professes God is fake. does he still have Salvation?

“Be on your guard, so that your minds are not dulled from carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, or that day will come on you unexpectedly like a trap." Luke 21:34
Be ready at all times for Jesus return and the judgement. Of the saved and the unsaved.

That chapter tells us we can do something to cause God to withdraw his free irrevocable gift of faith and salvation.

The end of my post was a question not a statement.

That's between him and the Lord; but it's possible he may get a rude awakening on judgement day if he doesn't repent. The parable of the prodigal was a warning to repent before it's too late, not a teaching on OSAS.

If what you say is true based on Hebrews 6:4-6 NO.

The warning was to His disciples. Be on your guard. Don't let this happen to you. If you fall away into the partying, carousing, drunken life style and that day comes, it will be like a trap a day of destruction and judgment and all those in the world who were not ready for it will suffer judgment and this includes those who were disciples but backslide into carousing and drunkenness and are deceived into thinking that they will some how get a pass. There will be no pass. BE ON YOUR GUARD. Don't live like that.

Too many who think they are saved are living like that. And that day will come upon them as a trap. No amount of explaining away this warning from Christ will help them. The only solution is to repent now and stop living like that before Jesus comes.

We can never lose our salvation.

You have to have more faith in God's promise than to think it possible he'd vacate his work.
