Okay so here's something I don't get, and maybe people can enlighten me...

On one of the biggest social networking sites online there's been rumors spreading that people's photos will soon be owned by that site (as in they'll have the rights to them), and will be possible used in advertising or whatever else they'd plan to do with them, and people are freaking out about it...

I don't understand why? If you don't want people to see your picture on the internet then why'd you even put it up there in the first place? I'd like to hope that aside from possibly being used by the site you uploaded them to for advertising people at least know by now about hacking, downloading and distributing without permission, etc., and how those are the risks they run to begin with. And what are people afraid of anyways? How many ads do we see that star people in them, be they people we recognize or not. And of those people how many of them were you able to gain access to because of those ads? Probably none of them.

Aside from being afraid of what they would use your face to advertise for (though in this case it would be for the website I'm sure, unless if it's the partial owner to some embarrassing medications I don't know about), I don't see why people are freaking out about this. And let me be clear, none of them are complaining that they wouldn't get some of the payment from the ad, it's the fact that they'd be used at all. If you put your picture on the internet you obviously wanted people to see it, why would people being able to see it suddenly scare you?
