The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. These intervals are named pomodoros, the plural in English of the Italian word pomodoro (tomato), after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student. The method is based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility.
Closely related to concepts such as timeboxing and iterative and incremental development used in software design, the method has been adopted in pair programming contexts.from wiki
I have no idea it was called that but I frequently studied 45 min in college and then took 10 min breaks and then went another 45 min studying etc...over and over and it helped keep me fresh more than just cramming over 5 hours straight lol......
Drinking water will also keep you awake/alert if you need to be but the only con is more frequent bathroom use lol.....
Chewing/sucking on ice can help keep you awake/alert as well.....
Frequently standing up to get the blood moving/walking around while studying helps me be alert as well
