Thank you both!
Although I don't know where this man stands with God, I do know my coworker is a Christian. I have prayed for healing, but also for her to be strong and hang on to God through all of this because God's plans are so much bigger than what we can see and feel.
**Side story**
My father is 81 years old. He does not like to talk about faith or God for reasons that I can speculate on for hours, but due to years of heavy smoking he is now on oxygen 24 hours of the day. A few years ago I felt lead to have a heart to heart with him and try to talk with him about death, heaven, hell ... Jesus, SALVATION! I started out by telling him how I did not want to make him feel uncomfortable but that I could not live with myself if he died and I never really tried to have a sit down conversation with him about salvation. We had a good talk and I feel like I made my point with him and for that I do have peace. I really don't know where he stands today but I do pray that he has made a connection with God and has gone thru the needed steps for salvation.
I did mention to him that I felt that his illness was a blessing from God (to which he was shocked) because every time he felt out of breath and the fear of loosing his life came closer and closer he would have opportunities to come to God for salvation if he had not done so already. It may sound harsh and I apologize in advance to those who may think I was wrong. But I really do feel that for my fathers' stubbornness and unwillingness to share his faith with his own family, I believe God loves hims sooooo much he has allowed this illness to come to him and has kept him around this long in order to bring him closer to him. ALL things are worked out for good! ALL things!
One more thing... before anyone takes it the wrong way. I do not believe bad things come from God, but I do believe God allows some things to happen in order to bring us closer to him. The ultimate goal is salvation. There are many unexplained things in life, but in my situation I have made peace knowing God is working with my father every day and for that I am thankful.
