I just found out this morning that a very prominent minister in my city has professed to being unfaithful to his wife.He stepped down from his post two months ago without giving a reason, just said he was experiencing turmoil in his church.
Most of the members are welcoming him back with open arms, others are not so forgiving.I know the Bible says to forgive,so as Christians are we expected to be receptive to church leaders that are sinful but tell us not to be?There is a church in either Sweden or Scotland that actually allows a retired ATHEIST minister to preach his beliefs. How accepting should we be as Christians, and is our acceptance a reason for the on-going problems being uncovered?

This is an interesting question.....King David committed adultery/murder.......he eventually repented and God did not remove him as king....however, there were major consequences for his actions and his family paid the price.....now, allowing a retired ATHEIST priest is ridiculous........and can't be used in comparing a repentant Christian minister who follows God and His Word.....if the minister has truly repented, I believe God can continue to use him in the ministry..........

true about david, but he was the King, not the high priest.

I believe we should always be forgiving, but consequences follow sometimes. if my pastor did such a thing like cheat on His wife, i would still love him, but no way in heck would I be under him, nor consider him my pastor. If a pastor cannot handle his family issues, he shouldn't be over a church which is like a big family. Straightforward as that.

Sin is sin, yea, but it says in 1st timothy alot about like deacons and requirements for being one. Peter was still used, but he wasn't the leader of the church then. Sure. Peter made mistakes after that, but still I think that's a bit different from managing other people like a family and church. Ya know?

1st Timothy 3:4-5 says "He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)

i think that's a pretty strong statement. Therefore, if a pastor was cheating on His wife, or just really mismanaged his family, i would be very wary of putting myself under him after the fact.

I hear what you are saying......so this would apply to looking at pornography too right?.....coz, if ya look at a woman to lust after her.....Jesus says you have committed adultery already in your heart......and yet, people seem more ready to forgive mental adultery than forgiving physical adultery ......

I would forgive either way! But, still the consequences would be there either either way. God will always forgive us no matter what as long as we seek after him, but sometimes the consequences are more harsh for each sin

that was very well said....... and thats not something i understand myself! why do people think its not having an affair when a man is constantly looking at pornorgraphy and other women lustfully..... Its only considered having an affair if its physical.. why is that?? are they not both the same in gods eyes?

And i agree! It's all still the same and i would forgive all the same, and wouldn't want that person as my pastor, alll the same.

As for " why" i guess one is more "taboo" than the other in society. Not a good excuse, but that's about all I can think of.

We as christians are held to a certain standard by the world and the bible, it clearly states very specific guidelines we are to uphold and specific guidelines for those who hold any form of office in the church. Yes we are human and we fail but i hafta say im with kakashi on this one ...forgive .yes of course but want that individual as my pastor or leader anymore ?? ehhh ..id have to KNOW there was sincere repentance and even then its hard to overcome the betrayed trust issue. Leaders in any form are held to a higher standard and there is a reason for that, you know the blind leading the blind they both fall in the ditch kinda thing.

Question??? What if your Pastor right now has cheated in the past and you don't know about it? Are they still a good Pastor? Have they asked forgiveness? We don't know what sins we are all committing! If you have gotten it right with The Father, then who am I to judge you!!! There are a lot of people doing secret sin, that is left uncovered, but we allow these people to lead us.

it's not a matter of forgiveness, that's a given.
