Not entirely. I mean the voting public does elect the electors of the electoral college though the political parties select the electors. Say that rapidly ten times. It's a tongue twister.

It doesn't really matter though. The electoral college is who truly decides the next winner. Ours don't count really. Did you all not listen in on your politics classes? ;)

I am not a Obama supporter by any means. I have not been happy with anything he has done in office. I do want to point out though one thing that every one seems to forget...Obamacare that is blamed solely on Obama is the wrong way to go about that. What people forget is that when Obama first took office he pushed for a 100% government funded health care system that would have eliminated medical bills and medicine costs. It was turned down and constantly vetoed because it would put restrictions on private doctors so that they could not charge higher prices for the same services provided by standard doctors.
Those private doctors funded the fight against it, even though most of the top medical programs around the world are totally government funded.

He then made adjustments and adjustments to it until it finally got passed and is what we know as Obamacare today.

The main thing that gets me also is that how the current president at the time when a debate gets going is always blamed for everything that is wrong even if he is not the one to blame for it.

Example: When Obama first took office we were already in an economic crisis do to Bush Jr., but Obama got blamed for it all.
Obama just has made things worse so far, oh but then again I guess everybody forgot how he mentioned that too. He said there is no easy fix to our economy, and things would get worse before they got better.

Tidbit for you....Romney, McCain, Perot, Clinton, and a lot of others all said this as well.
It's posts like this that test my memory that being A christian brother is THE most important thing.

WHAT!!!? You honestly believe that 100% gov funded health care system would eliminate medical bills!!? Just WHO do you think would pay for it? Are you at all paying attention to what is happening at a 100% gov funded healthcare program called the VETERANS ADMINISTRATION?

Not sure that democracy is a biblical principle anyhow....give me a benevolent dictatorship any day. Just because the majority say something is right, does not make it right....in fact more often than not, nowadays, it makes it wrong and anti Christ

You mean this program: Audit: More than 63,000 veterans waiting for care - CNN.com

"An audit of hundreds of Veterans Affairs facilities released Monday found that more than 63,000 veterans were waiting to be scheduled for care nationwide, and the Department of Veterans Affairs announced it was scrapping performance bonuses for all senior management in 2014 as part of its response to the review."

I hate to be a fly in your ointment but there is no such thing as a benevolent dictatorship. There's only despotic, fascist, and totalitarianistic ones.

But you did reveal that you're ready to strip away everyone's liberty.

If there was any way to get a 100% guarantee that the dictatorship would be and would remain truly benevolent, I'd be glad to try it. But as is, what with the Bible's description of the nature of man, I'll keep my republic.

i admit, I'm grasping for straws here.
But if we're looking for a form of government that comes the closest to meeting the second greatest commandment, democracy may be it.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him,“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [a]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
First of all, yes, you can love your neighbor as yourself in a dictatorship or in a monarchy/kingship/etc. Yet in democracy you may be able to love your neighbor to a greater degree through the government itself.

Christians have little influence over government in a dictatorship/kingship/etc. (Of course praying does give us influence. Just stick with me here.)

In democracy the Christian does have influence in government. (Those believing in conspiracy theories won't agree. But I'm speaking of democracy itself. Just save the rant for another post.)

In democracy the Christian can vote in the interest of their neighbor and for the good of their neighbor. Christians can choose the options that are closest to God's ideal. I'd say this is a form of loving your neighbor. Seeking God's ideal is very loving.

Yeah ok..it's sort of grasping at straws, but I had to try.

Politics and the Bible, hmm. Much government set ups in the Bible of Man and of course overall of God's Kingdom always triumphs.

For my feelings on man's governments, I always liked this part in Samuel when the Israelites decide to have a king despite Samuel's warning;

1 Samuel 8

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
[SUP]20 [/SUP]That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

Accomplishment:

It would appear that he has just about succeeded in old-fish-ial-izing that the USA is not a Christian nation.

He may not have noticed that the founding document of the USA, Treaty of Paris of 1783, starts out by recognizing the Trinity, ""in the name of the most holy and undivided Trinity." And it ends, like the Constitution acknowledging that Jesus Christ is Lord by saying, "in the year of our Lord," apparently not a common way of dating at the time.

By so doing, both the Trinity and recognition of Jesus as Lord, were official. The latter was repeated in the Constitution.

Our Constitution had a few fatal flaws, IMHO:

1) It should have acknowledged Jesus as Lord and the Bible as the Word of God, while maintaining separation of religious organizations from the state, and guaranteeing freedom of religion, but not for religions that advocate conquering the world by the sword.

2) It should not have made judges appointed for life; there should have been a provision for removing them for legislating from the bench; forced recall elections.

3) It should have spelled out who is to finally interpret the Constitution. If both houses of Congress have passed a law, signed by the president, that should mean it is finally constitutional, except for criminal trials. At the most, the SCOTUS should be allowed to opine that a law is unconstitutional with the immediate result of having in one week a new Congressional vote on it again.

But I digress, this needs a new thread.

Our government has been in the health care business for many years.

the VA

medicare and medicade

none.......of......these....programs....are......good.....or work well.

So the cure? Lets get more government health care.

The example is there. It stinks without question....why the heck would you want more of it?

You have to be deluded to be liberal, its the only logical conclusion.
