If the ring becomes a point of expressed pride, that could be very offputting.

Especially to any girl who has been raped or been a victim of sexual abuse, or had lost her virginity at a young age. Honestly, I don't like these rings for those very reasons.

Okay so everyone has a different opinion cool!!! was just curious...and I don’t wear it with pride...actually right now its not on my hand its around my neck because it doesn’t fit right anymore...so no one really has seen it in a few months....and as far as the taking it off when your no longer a virgin for me that’s true I’m supposed to give it to my dad if I fail to keep my promise...but if I do then its supposed to be a gift for my husband...not that the ring itself is a big deal but what it symbolizes for me....I really was just curious as to what other Christians thought because I get a different response from everyone!

Thanks Warrior44 that’s an awesome way to look at it...don’t worry about how other people are going to think of it because the right person will think its great...thanks you just made my day!!!!

My mind was just blown three ways to Sunday with this statement.

Good luck Kayla. I'm not knocking your ring in any way. I admire your fortitude, but my mind can't wrap around having my father as the guardian of my virginity.

Then if that's how you would work with your ring, it's more of a virginity ring rather than purity ring...since wearing it depends on being a virgin.
But in my opinion, not being a virgin doesn't make you unpure, just as being a virgin doesn't necesarily makes you pure. After all, Jesus said we could sin in our hearts and thoughts.
What I do praise about what you do is the fact that you're wanting to keep yourself until you find your spouse and that you also keep respect towards your dad about it. I think it's very special and I'm sure it's well seen in God's eyes.

There's a lot going on in this thread. I'm going to share some more thoughts, since I have some time.

Especially to any girl who has been raped or been a victim of sexual abuse, or had lost her virginity at a young age. Honestly, I don't like these rings for those very reasons.
I tend to think of girls who have been raped or sexually abused as virgins still. I view virginity as something you get to give away, not something that can be taken from you.
I've known several girls who have been raped and sexually abused in general. I'm often the "safe guy" so I have had the opprotunity to be there for them and offer support. So I am very in tune with certain things that happen with them, thoughts, feelings etc. etc. I can say I don't know the first one who has a problem with someone wearing a purity ring.

Now if someone is wearing the ring and also going around bragging and proclaiming to be better than everyone else, that is different. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Also, pride comes before a fall. From what Kayla has said here, she's not doing that.
Also, I believe she certainly can wait. Which means there wouldn't be some awkward handing over of her ring to her Dad.

It seems like a lot of Christians have the attitude of "Oh everybody messes up, everyone is going to fall in that area. Might as well just accept it". That is a terrible outlook and attitude to have. It's really relaxed and not taking sexual purity as seriously as it should be taken. Guess what? You CAN wait. It is possible. I'm 35 and by the grace of God I have waited on that. However, I have sinned plenty and can't say my thoughts etc. have always been pure. We are all sinners, BUT that is not an excuse to sin.
*
I also believe those who have had sex outside of marriage can certainly be pure again. It just takes repenting. Repent means to not just say "I'm sorry Jesus" then do it again, but to really turn away from the sin and not do it again. Jesus certainly can cleanse and purify a person. He can and will wash away those past sins.

I have known some who think they are less precious or valuable since they're not virgins anymore. That is SO wrong! Repent, let God cleanse you and don't worry. You're every bit as precious and valuable now as you were before. Don't let anyone tell you any differently.

Thanks niceguyj!! Your right I dnt think im better than anyone else and I most certainly never plan on giving the ring back to my dad...he was never set up as the "guardian" of my virginity.....it was just something we talked about when I was younger and how my parents have raised me...I guess considering the ring was a gift from him and there was a promise to keep I just always said if I messed up I would give it back to him....I guess for me that makes it even more something I want....not only to stay true to myself and what Ive been taught but because I would never want to disappoint him...Im a bit of a daddys girl!!! lol...and as much love I have for him..I have soo much more for Jesus!!!

I promise I dnt think Im better than anyone for being a virgin....matter of fact some people I have the most respect for were not virgins when they got married...do I judge them for that of course not...we all have different paths to walk and stories to tell....just because our stories are different doesnt make any of us better than the next person.

So you're saying that anyone can become a virgin again if they want to. Thats certainly revolutionary thinking.

You're welcome.
Any reason you have that helps you stay pure is good. So having that with your Dad is a good thing. Of course it's great that you love Jesus more. That's how it should be. :)
For the record, I didn't think you were being prideful. My comments were just made in general about that. You don't seem prideful about it at all. No worries.

So you're saying that anyone can become a virgin again if they want to. Thats certainly revolutionary thinking.
I'm a revolutionary kind of person.....who doesn't know how to word what I said differently. :)

Thats so sweet to have a Father give you a ring like that.
You must have a beautiful relationship.
Sounds very nice.

Ok I will admit that one big reason I don't like the idea of purity rings is because it was made a popular trend by secular celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, etc..

By the way, I heard Selena Gomez no longer wears hers. Justin Bieber, you little dawg you!!Tsk! Tsk! tsk!

And I'm sorry I was so annoying in this thread. This is the new me :)

I never needed one from the start. From all the wrong I've done in my past, I could say that I kept that one thing right with God. If anything, I've got one in my heart, and I try to remind my soul that it there. And with this one subject, I can be at peace.
