Satan was a God's right hand man at one time, until he=satan, DESIRED to be more POWERFUL than God himself. He was cast out of Heaven. Kind of headed in the same direction as "You shall have no other Gods' before me" you cannot desire to be more powerful than God himself.

Goes about the prophecy of Israel and Iran, Middle East, Etc being at war for eternity. Each side not believing in the others' religion, and causing more havoc than worth.
Herod, a non-believer or an atheist himself was a King, and had more power than most men did, had all the newborn children executed because it was impossible for him to figure out which son was Jesus..
Most parts of the New Testament is derived from ways people tried to kill Jesus, or put fault in him, or make fun of him, or bring him down, or bringing his disciples down (How many disciples died, or were imprisoned for their involvement with Jesus?)
If the prince of peace came to your world, the king of kings, and claimed to be God's son, wouldn't you try and kill him? Us Christians, we wouldn't necessarily want to do that, but someone of the anti-christian assembly would probably try their hardest, to do that. Make sense?

Well before attempting to send out a powerful question to batter up some cake we have to find out what Satan is.
Heaven's fallen angel; changed because he wanted to have power like God or have more power than God. Imagine that, that's not actually all that difficult to imagine. He just wanted power, he wanted to rule, he wanted strength. There's countless numbers of people who searched for power and ruler-ship.
We should have sympathy for the devil, he cannot help what he has become. I think that if God wanted him out of existence he would have put him there. He brought Satan to his people for the soul purpose to change a man between good and evil, but why would he do that - does he play games with us?
