Greetings friends. I wanted to know what you guys think about listening to different kinds of music. I have heard some christians say that we should strictly listen to christian music... a discouraging thought, since I enjoy a lot of different bands. for example, i've been listening to Ray Lynch, who is some weird new age dude lol but he makes sweet instrumental music that is incredible. I stay away from the blatantly bad stuff, like Tyler The Creator and such. But what are your thoughts?

I have basically stopped listening to anything outside of Christian music. I don't judge anyone who listens to secular music. I think it's personal preference.

The main reason that I find myself listening to only Christian music is because nothing is more powerful and enjoyable than praising the Almighty God.

Listening to music is subjective. There are always people out there that will tell you it's wrong to listen to anything other than what they approve of (since when did they set that standard?). There is nothing in the bible that speaks on this topic. And it usually requires out of context scripture twisting for these people to make their points. This is the kind of grey area the bible says 'if something bothers you, don't do it, because then it is a sin for you. but if it doesn't bother you, then go ahead, it's not a sin for you'. These dictators always seem to ignore that part of scripture, even when brought up to them they don't acknowledge it.
There should be some wisdom used. Like most grey areas, there can be a line that gets crossed. For myself i do have some Chrstian

Music in itself is not evil to listen to. It's the nature of the lyrical content. If you listen to a song like AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" then that's a bad song to listen to for obvious reasons. If you listen to songs with lyrics that talk about things like rape, torture, murder, that's when it's time to turn off the music.

I listen to music (aka the radio, lol) every day. I listen to alot of Michael Jackson songs. I have several CD's of his. There's a few songs I don't listen to very often of his, such as "blood on the dancefloor" and "morphine," but I really like his more humanitarian songs such as "Heal The World," "We Are The World," and especially "Earth Song." :)

Depends on what the lyrics is saying if it doesn't represent life, happiness, and good thoughts then no, there are music that are secular that are good. It just what is the song represents and what means.

Amen! It all comes down to the lyrics for me.

I really enjoy Christian music, yet I enjoy secular music from time to time. Though secular music I like the beat of the songs but the lyrics are usually just of the world. Because of this I really try not to listen to Secular music but I still listen to it from time to time.
