Well, I have a beautiful sumac, acually several, and finnally was able to conferm that the type I have is not the deadly kind, but edible.
We also learned that not just the berries, but the young growth shoots are edible, can be used for flavoring, and the plant has medicinal qualities.
I was just wondering if any here have ever prossessed the berries, seeds?
I have searched online, and found alot of info about the plant and it's uses, just no info about how to prossess the berries, seeds.
So, does or has anyone here actually used these seeds, berries and can share any info?
Id be very greatfull. :)

Thankyou and God bless :)

Never thought to do anything with the sumac on my property but when in need of recipes I usually Google Certo. If you google sumac certo you will get you a lot of Spanish stuff ( I don't speak Spanish). If you Google sumac recipe certo you will find some recipes.

I have never tried sumac seeds before but in googling "processing sumac seeds", I did come across this website:

Foraging Sumac- Edible Wild Plant | Penniless Parenting

She explains processing the seeds as a spice at the end of the post.
Thankyou Amy for finding this for me. :)
Im not too good at searching the net, and my computor gets cranky.
But I was able to open the link you gave me, and learned just what I needed . :)
Im looking forward to harvesting the berries and seeds soon, as they should be ready by the end of this month.
I ll try to post when I use them the first time.
An interesting note, the young branches can be used and an astringent, and the sumack was also used to treat asma.
I hope to find out more about the asma remedy when I learn about it. :)

Again, thankyou and God bless
