The Process of the Pearl
Written By: Mandajo82
From the outside an Oyster’s shell isn’t much to look at… Its been beat up by the ocean, tossed about… bumped along by rocks, caught in sea weed, and maybe even nibbled on by a fish or two. When you look at it… you might not think that something beautiful, something valuable, something magnificent is inside that shell… For look at it… On the outside… it’s really not worth anything, it’s just a shell.
However… upon closer examination of an Oyster… inside there is something quiet valuable… Something magnificent… something very beautiful. A pearl. Now it doesn’t start out as a pearl… it doesn’t just “Poof” one day appear. It starts out as an irritant. A bother… The oyster's natural reaction is to cover up that irritant to protect itself. The man*tle covers the irritant with layers of the same substance that is used to create the shell. This eventually forms a pearl. It takes many years to develop a pearl… A 3mm pearl takes about 5 years to form.
For many of us… our “shell” looks like that of the Oyster’s Shell we’ve been beat up by this world, Tossed about… Bumped along… Caught in Satan’s Snares and maybe have a few battle scars. When people look at us they might not see something beautiful... Something Valuable… Something magnificent… For look at us… On the outside our beauty may have faded… Maybe our hair has thinned, our skin has started to wrinkle.. or maybe we aren’t “just the right size”
We might feel insignificant in a vast sea of other Oyster’s… Yet keep in mind no 1 Oyster makes all the pearls it takes to make up the most beautiful and most valuable necklace… It takes many, many Oysters.
When we all take our troubles… our hardships… our irritants of this world… and cover these things in God’s love… And work those things along with God’s plan… We create in ourselves… Beautiful Pearls of the highest value.
So when we start to get discouraged that our “shell” isn’t beautiful… or that our circumstances “our irritants” are weighing us down and making us question ourselves or God.. We need to fix our hearts on what God sees. A beautiful pearl in the making.
2 Corinthians 4.18 says so we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
