David asked the Lord many times in the book of Psalms to be 'quickened' according to God's word (Ps 119:25,107,154). This word means 'to be made alive'. Do we as believers know what it means to be 'quickened' or 'made alive' by the word or are we simply stimulated in our soul by the knowledge of the word that we hear. To be 'quickened' by the word means that the human spirit in us comes alive and we are made aware of what God's thoughts are in a given situation. That word that we are 'quickened' by is to be applied in the situation by faith. The application of the word is called wisdom and we are walk in wisdom (Col 4:5). Walking in wisdom is the same as walking in the light (Is 2:5, Eph 5:8). Having love for one another and having fellowship with one another is based upon being 'quickened' and walking in the light (1Jn 1:7). The prodigal son was dead but 'made alive' again when he was restored to his father (Lk 15:24,32).

The word is 'quick' and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, dividing the soul and spirit, joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12). The word 'quick' means - to live, breath and bring life. The word brings life into the spirit as it is separated from the soul. This is important because a believer can be stimulated in their soul with the knowledge of God and not be quickened in their spirit to bring life in a situation through wisdom. The light we get from God's word is meant for the human spirit as the candle of the Lord (Prov 20:27). Our human soul can respond by faith in humility to the light and be 'quickened' with God's thoughts or it can reject that light and be 'stimulated' with knowledge in the soul through pride and consume it upon the lusts of the flesh (Jm 4:1-3).

Being quickened represents the life of God making the soul become alive with the thoughts of God, while being 'stimulated' allows the soul to express itself through self-knowledge that has no power to transform the mind or reveal the life of God in a situation but has the ability to express soul-power through the self image of the adamic nature of the old man. We are to put off the old man and put on the new man (Eph 4:22,23, Col 3:9,10) by being quickened in our spirit through the life of God's word revealing God's thoughts in every step we take (Prov 3:5,6). That is why Jesus said in (Mt 4:4) that man is to live (zao - be made alive) by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (or by every word that is given to quicken us in our human spirit).

Prov 4:5-9

5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Prov 16:16

16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Excelent Post Red,

And a perfect example of this is found in Mary.

Luk 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Luk 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

And what happens when this takes place?

You bring forth The Son.

We must be "made alive" in order to bring forth "Life."

A person is qickened by God when he is yet DEAD (spiritually dead) in sin Eph 2. God quickens a man to a spritual life only once and he never loses it as far as eternal heaven is conscerned. Man is not quickened to eternal life by his own efforts, but by the grace of God.

Yes. It happens when a man chooses to believe. Permanent salvation.

Forest. if this is true, A man can never be saved. Because until a person is justified. They are dead in sin. Scripture says it is the words which makes one alive. We must chose to trust God and his plan of salvation or reject it. Otherwise, men have excuse and God, as perfect judge, can not judge them, because he never gave them an opportunity to believe or reject.

I am amazed at the number of professing Christians that treat (Psalm 119) as if it is not inspired of God and completely ignore the word of God that is being magnified in that Psalm. Every believer should read and meditate on that Psalm as often as they can because of the incredible value and understanding that it gives in relationship to the word of God in the believer's life. The heart that is expressed in that Psalm by the author should not be taken for granted but embraced by faith and appreciated through the love of God. To be quickened by the word is much more than quickened being dead in our trespasses and sin (Eph 2:5). It is a lifestyle that God wants us to have as we walk with Him on a daily basis. We, as believers, need to take in the word of God daily so that we can walk in the light and be quickened in our spirit by every word of God.

God magnifies His Word above His very name (Ps 138:2). This reveals to us the emphasis that God Himself puts upon His very own Word. David was asking God to 'quicken' him according to the word and nothing else. It was the word that he wanted operating in his mind, his emotions, his volition, his conscience and in his heart. Perhaps the Holy Spirit made sure it was recorded that David fulfilled all of God's will, a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22), because of David's desire to always be 'quickened ' by the word as he trusted in the living God.

Guys, I am speaking to the fact that we can be quickened by every word of God in our walk after we have been saved, so deal with that in the believer's life in relationship to the light and wisdom that we walk in.

This morning I asked this question. 'Do I want to be stimulated about who God is or do I want to be quickened by His very life by grace through His word and Spirit'? To know Him is to be quickened by His life in the power of His resurrection, in the fellowship of His sufferings and being made conformable to His death (Phil 3:10). It takes the plan of God and ordained circumstances for God to work into our life what He has given us through grace and knowledge of His Son (2Pt 3:18). The word must be tried (Ps 12:6, 18:30) so that we can be quickened by it and walk by faith in what the Holy Spirit brings back to our remembrance as wisdom in the situation God has placed us in (Jn 14:26).

If we reject the plan of God, the word will never become life with the power to transform us by renewing the spirit of our mind (Eph 4:23, 2Cor 4:16, Col 3:10). To be renewed is to be quickened by His life so that those rivers of living (zao) water can flow from the belly of our soul (Jn 7:38). The life that we have been promised by the Lord in (Jn 10:10) is a more abundant life. Not a life filled with possessions or things that satisfy the comfortability of the flesh (Lk 12:15), but one that is continually being quickened and made alive according to the word so that an invisible God becomes visible in every step we take being delivered from this present evil world (Gal 1:4).

It don't get no better than that, how else are we "Living Sacrifices"?
Without the quickening power of the Holy Spirit it's not possible.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Sinners are spiritually dead in their sins and trespasses, children of wrath even as others, unable to choose the good. That's why God in His mercy intervenes and quickens them, raising them to life, which is eternal. And there is no certain time that God needs to wait for to bestow this saving grace on those whom He shows mercy.

1Cor.2

[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Eph.2

[1] And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
[5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, ( by grace ye are saved )
1Petr.3

[21]...even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

I sure think bad theology in this area shows up in the preaching of the gospel
and the way we present it to people. The implications of our understanding
shows up in the way it has become a pressured sales pitch rather than a testimony.
Nearly a desperation to save a soul rather than to be ready always to answer
to those who ask us why we have our hope in Christ. More and more everyday
it is being taught about the power of mans will. And the truth is so more glorious
in that God empowers us for anything we do according to His will.
Very good thread tho. Maybe needs another go around. :)

A good post Red, Ive enjoyed reading it and all responces.
There was a time when my weaknesses in word recall, memory and cognitive weaknesses weighed heavy on me, as I wanted to witness so much to Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.
But as my siggy says,( it is in our weaknesses that Gods power is made perfect),
that I began to see that everything we do, every word we read, every good thing in one's self is not of self, but given in Jesus to the glory of God.
Because of my weaknesses I began to know and see the gift given.
For if we look to what we can do well, we often do not let Jesus fill that part of ones self.
For me, I am weak in recalling the scriptures, often, even the message given in Jesus.
I used to despair over this, thinking I was failing Jesus.
But a simple scripture helped me,
" I will send my Holy Spirit to remind you of what you learned from me".
Jesus called me to see that everything one needs, sees, knows, and understands, when one relys on Jesus, is always given, made alive as His work is done or asked, according to need.
David was asking God, for all understanding, all needed, all help,
to always be given by God through the Holy Spirit!
Not of one's own understanding, for our knowladge has no life without Jesus, without the Holy Spirit!
I no longer see the weaknesses as a loss, but as gain, because all I could not do, all my weaknesses, have allowed me to see and know God's glory in my weaknesses.
I could not understand on my own, but in Jesus, His Holy Spirit brings every understanding when needed, to bring God 's glory.
For when we desire to live, seek, witness, learn, in faith, hope and love, the rightousness and will of God Our Father in Jesus Christ is Lord Come in the flesh, not by our own streangth, but by knowing our weaknesses.
Jesus brings through His Holy Spirit everything, replacing self with His Spirit, then is His power made perfect in our weakness!
I dont know if the words Ive shared here have made much sence, but in faith, I know that no matter how weak this witness may be, Gods power is made perfect in our weakness through faith, when we look not to self, but by the faith hope and love we are called to, in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.
For it is by grace we are made perfect, by His power that His glory shines forth, and in this, we shall see face to face.
Come Lord Jesus and quicken us all, that we shall know and see that we are made alive by your sacrifice, your grace, your work done and presance in us, through your Holy Spirit, providing all
that is life, understanding, wisdom, hope, truth, love, your perfect in us!

Again, thankyou your post.
in Jesus, God bless
