Story of a Man ©

A year ago yesterday

Each time's the same
The memory of him
Still racking his brain.

He lies still awake in the bed of his truck.
He whispers, still aching
the last words he spoke.

"Son, go out on your own
oh, my times running out.
The cancer is spreading,
my minds in the clouds.
The heavens are waiting
and I'll never doubt
That though you'll live without me
you will make me proud."

The fog of his breath
Descends into the air
He's not been successful
He grieves in despair

The wish of his father
has yet to be honored.
He keeps moving backwards
It keeps getting harder

"Son, what are you doing?
Why won't you let go?
You dwell at my bedside
Like it's all you know.
It's time that you learned
where your value is at.

You should have moved past this
you're stronger than that."

He puts on his sneakers
picks up his guitar.
Natures harmonizing
He sings to the stars.

About a year later
A new winter night
His boots knock the wood
As he steps in the light

The crowd cheers around him
The man on the stage
He's stronger than ever
His life's rearranged

The words speak truth :) Glad you shared it with us! The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs —- heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
