Syracuse University announced Monday that Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting the school in October as part of a two-day event called "Common Ground for Peace."
The 14th Dalai Lama will speak on the second day at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9 in the Carrier Dome. His speech will be followed by the One World Concert, emceed by Whoopi Goldberg and featuring a performance by Dave Matthews.

Other expected performers include Counting Crows, Andy Grammer, Nas and two dozen other artists. The university says the concert is being recorded for broadcast television and will feature an original song written and performed by multiple artists.

According to SU, the two-day schedule includes academic panel discussions for faculty and students. Panelists include CIA head R. James Woolsey, Jr.; Global Partnerships Forum founder Amir Dossal; Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Mohamed El Baradei; human rights advocate Martin Luther King III; NYU's Moral Courage Project director Irshad Manji; and former U.N. ambassador Andrew Young.

NBC News correspondent and former "Today" show co-host Ann Curry will moderate two panel discussions -- one on last year's Arab Spring and another on shifting global consciousness toward peace. Tickets are limited, but students will be able to watch the panels on closed-circuit TV broadcasts on campus.

Ticket prices and the full list of performers for the Oct. 9 One World Concert have not been announced yet, but concertgoers can sign up at oneworld.syr.edu to receive email notifications for updates, including when tickets will be on sale to the public.

Syracuse University says proceeds from the event will support international relief efforts and help fund a new scholarship named for Bassel Al Shahade, the graduate student filmmaker who was killed in May while filming a documentary about violence in his home country of Syria.
