Anyone not being lead by the Holy Spirit is, in a sense, evil. Why did Satan rebel? Selfishness. Why did Adam & Eve rebel? Selfishness. What brought on the great flood in Noah's day? Selfishness. Why was Sodom and Gomorah (pardon bad spelling) destroyed? Selfishness. Why did the pharisees want Jesus crucified? Selfishness.
Selfishness is the root of all sin regardless of what sin it might be. Selfishness is the opposite of the Divine Nature of God which is selfless. If you are a believer in Christ yet you struggle with selfishness, you have a great delima on your hands, because it is obvious that you are not being lead by the Holy Spirit. To say that the devil made me do it is a complete cop out, the truth is that you are ignoring the Holy Spirit and following after your own selfish ambitions and desires.
