There was a post earlier by somebody who wanted to do away with the like button, said it was egotistic or something like that. I responded that I usually meant amen when I liked a post. And the more I think of it, the more it fits. I just read a prayer request, many of them actually, by people in dire situations and asking for prayer. And I do pray for them, I don't feel I always have to write something but I acknowlege their request with a like. And the hope that they understand that means amen, not that I like what's happening to them.

Long story short, how about changing the like button to an Amen button? At the bottom of a post, instead of 'x y and z like this', it could say 'x y and z say Amen to this'.

?
 
I like that - I mean, Amen. Seriously, I use the like button for when I agree, but have nothing intelligent to add. Amen is a great idea.
 
You do realize and/or remember that 'Amen' means "so be it" - right? :D

Of course, we say it with a much more ''loose'' definition these days...

'Amen' as a button may be a good idea - but I would suggest that it be an addition, not a replacement. 'Like' is a lot more specific. It says "I like this"...

You wouldn't amen something you don't like but sure, have both. Maybe add a 'dislike' button too. That would stir things up a bit! ;)
 
The dislike idea has been said a few times already. Never going to happen.

I think 'like' is fine and just needs to be left alone. Having a separate 'amen' button is pointless as it basically means the same thing. To me adding, or changing it to 'amen' is just trying to spiiritualize something. I think its kind of silly, personally.

I agree with Ugly. And that is why i will click on the LIKE button :D
 
I agree with OFM and think that when people like other people's posts, it makes them feel better. OFM has encouraged a lot of people this way. :)

I actually don't agree with the part in red, above. Otherwise, I generally agree with Ugly's statement.

My 'Amen' post was more about [what is written in purple] than Ugly's statement...

It only becomes annoying when someone posts, "Like my post."
I don't see this problem rising up here.
 
I would leave it the way it is, I can see right now arguments arising in forum posts over someone who may have clicked the unlike button because the post creator may take it personal, and we all know people tend to overreact. As far as an Amen button, I see no need for one, we are not praying or are in church.
