The necessity of the continual sacrifice.

Many times, we are used to disregarding some excerpts of the Old Testament, whether for being difficult to understand or for looking to be of no importance in our days. Nonetheless, take a look at this verses:

• “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering. It is the burnt offering for burning on the altar all night to the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it. And the priest shall put on his linen garment. And he shall put his linen breeches on his flesh and take up the ashes which the fire has consumed with the burnt offering on the altar. And he shall put them beside the altar. And he shall strip off his garments and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes outside the camp to a clean place. And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it. And he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.” (Lev 6:9-12).
• “And you shall say to them, This is the fire offering which you shall offer to Jehovah: two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, a continual burnt offering. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer between the evenings.” (Num 28:3,4).

• “And Aaron shall burn sweet incense on it every morning; when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it. And when Aaron lights the lamps at evening, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before Jehovah throughout your generations.” (Exo 30:7,8).

I can fancy what are you thinking: “once the sacrifices were repealed by Jesus on the cross, why to learn about this?

See what Paul said:

• “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, so that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” (Rom 15:4).

If you pay attention carefully, you will see that the three fires had to be kept burning in the altar ceaselessly. Contrary to what people thinks, the conversion isn’t only once in the life.

Every day we need to:

• sacrifice our earthly nature (Colossians 3:5) (altar of burn offering);
• mull over the light of the prophetic word (2Peter 1:19) (gold lampstand);
• intercede for each other in prayers (Ezekiel 22:30) so that Jesus can give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth and they can awake out of the snare of the Devil (2Timothy 2:25,26) (altar of incense);
• abide by His justice and judgment resting and biding in Christ (Psalms 37:7) (shewbread).

Finally, have a blessed day sowing righteousness, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1Peter 2:5), even in the bad moments (Psalms 126.5,6), when everything looks awry. This is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1) and your reward will be sure (Proverbs 11:18).
