In the verses preceding this one, Jesus speaks about our hearts being attached to where our treasure is. In other words, we can be sure our hearts will be fully engaged in whatever is of great value to us. Then in verses 22 and 23, He mentions how this treasure, or object of our affection becomes our primary focus, and as a result influences every part of our lives. In essence, it becomes the master of our lives. Now, bearing in mind that this sixth chapter of Matthew mainly deals with financial and material provision, in verse 24, He emphasizes that in context of needing provision, there are one of two 'masters' that we will put our trust in and give our full attention to, in order to have our material needs met. Either we will give our devotion and attention to God and His interests, fully committing to trusting Him to provide for our every need; or we will devote all efforts and trust in other means for our provision.

It's made quite clear that our trust cannot be placed in both, we must choose one or the other. Verse 25 eludes to the truth that the results of placing our trust in any others means, apart from God, will lead to perpetual worry, in the likelihood that source dries up, or unforeseen circumstances cause us to lose all we have. However, verse 33 promises that if we choose to make God and His interests our primary priority, and place our complete trust in Him as we live by His principles, every need will be met in abundance. If you find yourself been perpetually worried or concerned about your needs being met, make serving the Lord and obeying His principles your desire and delight, and you will find He will guide and provide for you in every way​
