When told of a treasure beyond worth,
Its value not equaled by any on earth,
There began the quest to possess this trove,
Committed, success the only goal.

It began with the torn old map as guide,
Worn thin by the hands of others,
Who had also sought the prize so dear,
And said the secret was hidden here.

I studied it from top to bottom,
And several more times to be sure,
Then sought the answer from other old tomes,
Looking still for the elusive clue.

Some said here, others said there,
And all were so convinced,
They knew the way to what was sought,
Because they found it sure.

Each held the promise to quaff the thirst,
And were pursued with keen aware,
Yet every time when I drew near,
It faded and fell the more unclear.

Each new hope and each new try,
Set me back from any gain,
Hope began to fade away,
Replaced by nagging despair and pain.

Finally fallen, broken and burned,
No longer able to seek or yearn,
The years of toil with nothing gained,
Left helpless, hopeless, blind and maimed.

Then He came so quiet, yet so clear,
“At last my Son I can draw you near.
You could not hear with your mind so full
Of noise and clutter and fear.

Don’t you know, is it not now so clear,
Your seeking was for naught,
For you are the treasure valued so dear,
Not you, but I have so long sought”.

Great my brother, a witness of the journey! 😇
