The governments of the world work on a reactive system. A bad event like the nuclear power plant problem in Japan is a good example. It has beenl known for a long time that Japan is one of the most active eathquake countries in the world. It is well known that nuclear power is a dangerous form of energy. Yet economic demands made the Japanese put six nuclear reactors all in one spot. It would have been far safer to spread the reactors around the country, but would have cost alot more. Now the Germans are reviewing the safety of their nuclear power plants.
When are we going to stop making the dollar, the be all and end all as far as the driving force in what we do.
When are we going to get some Godly wisdom in our governments.
When is the world going to stop being PC and start taking the unpopular but nessacary steps towards creating a future for mankind worth living.
I've started changing the way I vote, and I suggest other people start doing the same. You don't get change unless you work towards that change yourself.

Your point is well taken if you have a reasonable alternative to offer. The world everywhere enjoys a certain standard of living because of technological advances which have taken place throughout history. If your solution is an alternative form of energy that will work at a manageable price, I would agree with you wholeheartedly. If you advocate rolling back the standard of living of most of mankind, I cannot. Life is full of risks. The Japanese knew the risks they were incurring when they built the plants in the first place.

A geothermal resource assessment shows that nine western US states together have the potential to provide over 20 percent of national electricity needs. It's there why don't they use it?
Another study I read was that using bladeless turbines with geothermal reduces the costs by a third and increases the output by three times. Bladeless turbine technology has been around since 1913 but for some reason mankind does not want to adopt and improve the technology.
