To all of new brothers and sisters in Christ and also the guests who visit Christian Chat, I know there are those of you who are searching for the truth. Praise God! You are on the right path!
However, I ask you to use caution when it comes to reading threads/posts…. a bit of advice:
One must compare what men say with the Word contained in the Holy Bible. There are people in this world who want to deceive the new believers (who are not completely grounded in the truth of scripture), there are also believers who are deceived themselves; being used as tools of Satan, unknowingly, to confuse the babes in Christ and lead them astray.
There are those who twist scripture to make it mean something that was never intended; just as the enemy did when he tempted our Lord, Jesus Christ, in the wilderness. Jesus was prepared though, because he knew the Word inside and out, not to mention he was God in the flesh, the Word Himself dwelling among us. He battled Satan’s false doctrine with the Word of God and the devil fled him.
Here are a few scriptures that speak about people leading others astray (taken from NIV):
· Isaiah 3:11-13
· Micah 3:4-6
· 1 John 2:25-27
· 1 John 3:7-8
Jesus warned many times against being deceived by false prophets and false Christ(s) in the gospels.
The apostles and leaders of the early church were also concerned when it came to followers of Christ being deceived:
Romans 16:17-19 NIV
17 I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. 19 Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
Ephesians 5:6-7 NIV
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
Colossians 2:2-4 NIV
2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
2 Timothy 3:12-14 NIV
12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it.
Guard your hearts my brothers and sisters and let no man deceive you. Study your Bibles!
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Psalm 119
104Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
105Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Dig in to the Word; it is food for your spirit and soul. May God bless you and keep you, and deliver you from the snares of the evil one.
