I am a singer. I know that God has gifted me, but it's taken me a long time to accept this and begin to walk in it. Music is part of what kept me alive growing up in the environment I grew up in. There's been a seasonal shift recently in my church and my life. After 10 years of begging to do a gospel choir my pastor looked at me and said, "then do it." the whole choir kindly nudged me with their spiritual steel toe boots into singing to lead. This is not a wee little solo. This is the lead from "Joyful, Joyful" in Sister Act 2. I rocked it. But I also sort of shocked everyone. And I feel now that I'm having to step out more and more musically.
I am also a song writer. The problem is my friends are all amazing musicians and they intimidate me to death. So, tonight, for the first time ever, I actually "played" and sent a song to someone who could a) critique it and b) actually play it well.
I have known for a long time that the lord wants me to do something with my music. But I'm a musical sissy when it comes to playing my own song.
