I've always loved science fiction and watched Doctor Who as a child, and still enjoy it as a grandmother. It's good for our grandchildren's minds to be challenged and expanded and we often watch TV together.
However, I consider myself rather bewildered lately, at the diversity built in to it. It seems to be there at every turn now. I honestly never even noticed that Rose was in fact a transgender person, the various references passed over my head.
My question is, how do parents of children these days explain things like this to them and at what age? I am just glad I don't have to do it - let my sons and their wives sort all that out! I wouldn't know where to begin.
