Of course we need to watch what we say, including *swear* words.
Just as our walk needs to be that of one who is born again, so must all our conduct as well as the words we speak. The gate is narrow and the path is narrow that we walk which leads to the kingdom. Even the bible speaks of the evil of the tongue:
James 3:5-12
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue
is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue.
It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh
water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
Thus the importance of avoiding speech that is both evil and displeasing to God.
Here are some other scriptures regarding the language we speak. Take all thoughts into subjection unto Jesus Christ. Examine your hearts and be pleasing to God
Ephesians 5:1-4
5 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Ephesians 4:29
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Colossians 3:8-10
8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new
man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
Colossians 4:5-6
5 Walk in wisdom toward those
who are outside, redeeming the time. 6
Let your speech always
be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Matthew 12:37
37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 15:10-11
10 When He had called the multitude to
Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
