My husband and I both wear our rings MOST of the time. We do take them off every now and then. He takes his off in the shower (not sure why), and I take mine off when I'm making dough or something. Don't want crap stuck in there.
I am not a jewelry person. I was always afraid that if I had a typical engagement ring, I would probably hurt myself with it or break it or something horrible would happen since I'm not used to jewelry. My husband bought me a ring that's full of diamonds, but there are no sticky outy parts for me to hurt myself on, so I absolutely love it. You'd be surprised how quickly you get used to a ring being on your finger. I barely notice it's there, but I totally notice when it's not on.
My parents always wore their rings while they were married. I'm not sure if that was to be romantic or because they couldn't physically take them off anymore cause of fatness.

Yes, I agree with that Rissa77. I think some men might forget they are actually in a relationship if they don't wear it. They shouldn't, that's really sad if they do. My personal opinion, I just believe the ring is just as important as the commitments they are making on that day. It's just as important as the wedding. Of course, unless, they are working with machinery as your dad does.

I don't really think they forget they're married.. correct me if I'm wrong, guys. But when a girl looks at a diamond her man gave her, she thinks of him. And a ring is in a convenient place to always be noticed. I would hope a wedding band does the same for him.
And I like what rain said.. you may not always feel the ring on when you're used to it, but you sure do notice when it's not.
I don't think the ring is as important as the commitments or the ceremony.. it's just a physical object.. but it is a really important symbol and represents so much more than "she's married."

I didn't say both of them would forget. I am basing this from my personal observations of married couples that i've known. I didn't say it's all about the ring cause it most certainly is not. I'm saying that it doesn't mean absolutely 'nothing'.

I have never even seen my fathers wedding ring. My parents have been happily married for almost 26 years now. I'm sticking with the cultural thing.

My Dad never wore his ring when I was growing up, and he still doesn't now.
I remember noticing this one day and asking my Mum about it. She said he just never wore it because he worked as an Electrician and it wasn't safe. That makes sense. It never bothered my Mum that he didn't wear it.
Now, years on I am married and my husband doesn't wear his ring. He wore it for a few months after we got married, but he used to take it off when he went to work (similar situation to my Dad- it wasn't safe to wear it in his job), but then he'd put it on at home or when we went out. Problem was it annoyed him. It used to slide down his finger and he'd be playing with it all the time. In the end, he stopped wearing it cos (a) he was scared it would fall off and (b) it didn't fit properly and so it annoyed him. Resizing wasn't an option. We had it sized when we bought it, but I guess he just has a funny shaped finger or something, because once it was over his knuckle it was too small. The next size down wouldn't even go over his knuckle. It never bothered me, but he used to keep it in his top drawer beside the bed- and that showed me it was special to him.
Then one day our house got brken into and his ring was stolen from that drawer. We have never replaced it. So, although I always wear my ring, he doesn't wear his anymore.
