The paradox of Christianity: we suck and we're chosen. We are completely and utterly horrible, wretched if you will; but we are also fully known and loved by the Creator of the universe, the molder of our souls, and the designer of our hearts. We deserve so much more and so much less than we are given. Our lives do not warrant the grace which is poured on us and in us each moment. We could not earn such a treatment. Yet instead we actually earn eternal punishment. What we should have plopped into our hands as we hold them out in search for mercy is a lashing and abandonment by a perfect God who in His righteousness can have no association with sin. However, He gave us His Son to bare all our wretchedness, all our cursedness, all the grief we cause and feel. He gave Him that he might have us... a selfish, self-righteous group of people whom He loves beyond measure, whom He sought out for no logical reason, whom He continues to pursue through all the sorrow we cause.
