This is a question that's been on my mind lately. In my efforts to avoid legalism I let myself enjoy secular music a little bit more...but then I discovered that due to some things in my past this is something I personally can't do without losing the focus I want to have. Is this the same for everone? I don't think so, maybe not...but I'm not gonna lie to myself I have weaknesses. If I enjoy worship music and I know God loves being worshipped ( and He deserves it) , then I don't see a reason for worship music not being what I listen to the most. Of course I enjoy some secular songs once in a while...but after a while of just listening to secular music I feel personally uncomfortable, and then there are some songs I just find offensive to God which I try to avoid altogether.
That's great, I think, kayM, the Lord leads, and, btw, never lie to yourself it will break your spirit and allow the Enemy inroads to your life, and, as Bryan Adams sings, that snake will cut like a knife straight to the heart. But, like Adams sings, too, when we see that we are wavering in our walk from the secular music we.listen to as you say above we can exclaim, 'I'm gonna run to You,' and, God will be waiting to right our 'walking' steps , I personally prefer to 'Draw Me Close' by Katinas, but, hey, whatever 'run' works for you to focus BACK on God do it, even Whitney Houston's , 'I'm gonna run to you.' Just God, follow Him, it's all good, whatever you listen to IF your knowing it is getting you back to Him :)

ugly, the Lord leads, and, He leads out of Love, we respond out of conviction of our faith in having believed in Him through His Word and events that drew us unto Him, not always, but typically an event happened excruciatingly, or,, distinctly, 'God.' You saw Him, and, it changed your direction and thinking of following Christ. :)

Ok, i'm done, i can see you're more interested in making psuedo-spiritual ramblings that i can't make heads or tails of in an attempt to prove your 'knowledge', and completely bypassing the issue of what the word convict means. You have been proven wrong, by 3 people, and at least 2 dictionaries, and all you do is comeback with some random spiritual babbling. Its obvious you're not going to own up to be wrong. Despite that dictionaries, word experts, and millions of people using the word 'convict' to sometimes mean 'showing error', essentially. But no, you know better than all of us. You are smarter, and evidently more spiritual than the rest of us millions that use the word 'wrong'. You, know better than all of us.

Ugly, 'showing error,' is God's way of correcting us in Love, God finds NO fault in His sheep, He only finds help. There is no guilt and no shame.

If I am wrong with word 'convict,' that is fine, and, yes, there are different ways to understand the word but 'guilt' is not something God does to His sheep. Satan convicts us, not God, for God is good, and, God is Love.

Christ bro, I am speaking for myself, not you, not anybody, I am not going to speak for you either, I can't, I have no more authority over your life than the man in the moon, God must speak through you of all you past sins, ugly, and, they all are forgiven, and, present sins, forgiven, and, future sins, forgiven. They were forgiven at the cross :)

Sorry, but I am not sure what you are upset about or are 'done' with, I simply have tried to let everyone know that God does not convict you in a 'guilt' sense and if that is a 'pseudo-spiritual' rambling,' let me know why it is.

Ugly, also, Christ bro, I want you to understand that those who have Christ are FREE, indeed, from guilt and shame and I strive to never make others feel anything but The Love of God and His presence with them, The Lord leads , and, our music is to bring glory to God, listen to whatever you want, just pray it is bringing glory to God, and that will bless you mightily too . And, if you got a feeling in the pit of your stomach while listening to a song, then that is a beautiful thing, for God is working in you through Him :)

Yes, this is absolutely the Truth, the 'conviction' sentence, as I never foumd the scripture in Rom. 14 for if to one it is a sin then it is, which is so true a statement, and, scripture, too, if you prove me where you found it. I would search it out but figure that snackers won't mind, he's a pretty smart boy looks like to me, and, if not, don't forget to often let Him no he's 'handsome,' milady, as I'm certain that kind of compliment will be music to his ears :)

Hi Mr. Green! :)

After reading this, I sort of shook my head and went ...>o-O<......because I'm not sure what you were saying, so I'm not sure how to answer it. Please don't feel obligated to explain it, though. How about if I just say this:

The word "conviction" may not appear much in the new testament, but it is still an accurate way to describe what you are referring to as "correction". As some have pointed out, conviction can be defined as "the knowledge of right from wrong". A "man of convictions" isn't a guy with a rap-sheet longer than Snackers' hair.....it's someone who is firm in their beliefs, convinced that they know what's right, and will stand for it.

So, here I will translate it using Snackers' Nic-tionary, edition one:

Conviction: Kun-vik-shun: That ooky feeling you get when you know that you've messed up.

(Ooky is a highly technical term, but it can be described as an un-easiness in your spirit).

Anyway....the word "conviction" is often used to describe the feeling you get when God corrects you, and all people are referring to is how they know right from wrong by the feeling that God gives them. The term is accurate, and you don't need to preach against it, just make it known that God still loves us even when we mess up. He doesn't condemn us, but He does show us what we need to change to do better. I can tell that you already know that, I think you're just a bit confuzzled about the accuracy of the word "convict", but it is indeed appropriate, and people will continue to use it, so don't let your green brains trouble you. We know that there is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk after the Spirit and not the flesh. :)

The Holy Spirit leads my life now, that I knowingly know, having felt His power through the laying on of hands in 2000. Honestly, even though I told God I was following Him as teenager, recommitred life reborn to Him on altar walk, 1997, I never knew the Holy Spirit, how He operated, until 2000.

Pssst, snackers, let me whisper a secret to you, which you already know because He is in your heart too: He operates on our Abrahamesque faith and obedience. And, it is killer-beautiful how He moves in us. And, I'm not saying that you're not saved IF you don't have HS which happens when you pray and fillow Him, you receive Him, for C.S. Lewis, he said, (I paraphrase), ' I was in a car driving and know not whilst it came from but it was a wind and I felt Him come over me.' :) so, yeah, I pray for everyone, but my feelings are not of being convicted when I err, instead, it is like Ugly said, for his definition of 'convict,' and pop.click! , I am convinced by Him of my error, and, yes, as you say, milady, God does conviction (no feeling of guilt from Godcomes, but guilt DOES come, for The Enemy deceives/lies, that sorry, mean snake ! :( God overcame ALL guilt /shame on the cross, all The Enemy brings God burns right from our mind IF we let Him :)

God bless you, snackersnichole, I pray everyone understands that I want you all to follow Him personally for your life and sorry if I sounded judgmental, as I think some thought I was, forgive me. :)

Oh, it's ok Mr. Green :) I didn't think you were being judgemental, just a bit confrazzled about the accuracy of the word "convict". Plus a bit stubborn in your reluctance to see that the word can indeed apply to the "correction" that you were speaking of, Hehehe :D. Referring to the correction of God as "conviction" is actually quite common, and I've never heard it used in a condemning way :)

And, I will give you a resounding, whole-hearted "Amen!" To the importance of asking The Lord to fill you with The Holy Spirit, it's an extremely important thing to do, especially if you aren't sure if He's leading you or not. The Holy Spirit will lead you, guide you, comfort you, and keep you on track for God.

So, anyone who isn't sure if they have The Holy Spirit really should invite Him to inhabit them. It never hurts to be thorough, and you can't have too much of a good thing, right? ;)

Yes, Nichols, the Lord lears, thank you you brought up the word, 'conviction,' and, it was well brought up. I believe that, too, conviction of following Christ for my life and conviction to follow the Hoy Spirit's leading. I just don't believe in being convicted in a guilt sense by the Holy Spirit, and, julieannie, I think, took offense, and, I meant no offense, it is just deep-seated understanding in me ,bfor myself, that the Holy Spirit only corrects us, no convicting of 'finding you guilty' of listening to music you know has blasphemous or women demeaning lyrics or whatever. But, yes....

....as ugly and pop.click! said, there are different definitions of convict and pc's def: showing us a wrong in some respect,' and, ugly's def: to show us our error (I don't like the word 'convince' either), but, an emphatic YES! , that definition of convict is correct too and I am in compleye agreement of God showing us when we error, or, do something wrong in some respect and are shown the offense.

I think my green brains are confrazzled, lol, what a nice word, snackers, but I am hearing from the Big Boss right now, and, I thank Him bigly today, I am exhausted from mind-thinking of it all, He really blessed my work. Ah, God, so good, good night, milady, and, yes, yes, Christ peeps, the all of you, you know who you are, naut, julieannie, nicestguy, and, anyone else I may have offended, ritt, Liam, I am sorry, may the Lord greatly lead all you greatly as you just follow Him and walk with Him. :)
