I've been in gospel music for over 40 yrs now. I tend to lean towards Southern Gospel, since I have been in all kinds of groups, tours, and on 6 albums. Southern Gospel has 'meat' not milk. Southern GOSPEL has a message, but not entertainment. You can have it country, pop or even on the heavy side and still be full of the Holy SPIRIT. Music that is annointed does not need to be advertised..it will lure you to HIM. The Singer does NOt have to be advertised as a known GOSPEL singer in order for the annointing to be effective. For instance, when I was a teen, Kris Kristopherson wrote the song "WHY ME, LORD?" Other people recorded it and it became a big hit, not only due to it's simple clarity, but the message helped people come to CHRIST. GOD has been known to use a donkey for HIS purposes, ask Balaam the prophet! YOu can be blessed by any song that uplifts JESUS...even if the singer or writer or artist is not known as a bonified Gospel singer. You really want to be blessed, watch on YouTube the orginal Dolly Parton rendering of "HE's alive" at the Country Music Awards show way back in the 1980's. Even some of Elvis Presley's gospel recordings can move your heart. What I am trying to do is open your mind to the possibilities that the Holy SPIRIT is not limited to just music found in a GOSPEL shop.
