This was discussed on "Life Matters" radio show last night, and there were some wise suggestions made to help our girls, because it's pretty rough out there with so much access to social media 24/7, and what girls will use it for.

The best I thought, were:

Own the phone yourself. If it's yours, you can say what happens to it.

Curfew. The phone gets put away (I mean locked away, Dad, your little angel has little wings in the middle of the night) between say 9pm and 8am. This gives a 'circuit-break' for all that emotion.

Why should a phone have internet connectivity? This gives open unsupervised access to anything. With the growing number of now girl porn addicts, you don't let your teenagers go anywhere on a computer do you? Why give them a phone that will do the same.

This is just a snippet. Anyone want to talk?

The title of this post is the title of a book you can google.

Considering the amount of trouble I got into as a teenager, without even the assistance of a cell phone or constant internet access, this is good stuff that I wish people would take more seriously. Yeah, so, your teenager will probably be upset and whine and pout and shut down for a while on you, but SO WHAT? You're the parent, don't let a teenager be the boss.

Thanks for sharing this :)

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

There is a little word of encouragement to all of the parents who are afraid of disciplining their children for the fear of their child hating them.

I was raised in a very strict setting and although I hated the discipline and guidance of my parents at the time, looking back at this I know now that it was all done out of love, Praise God! And although I had my season of rebellion, now that I am ''old'' I have not departed from the way I was raised.

Very good advice. Unfortunately, I chose to be a "friend" to my teenage daughter, and I have regretted it many times since then. Believe me, the stress of those fights when you put your foot down are nothing compared to the heartache you risk if you let their behavior go unchecked.

God bless you all.

I am so afraid for the teenage years. My daughter is only almost 3 and proving to be very willful. I was a difficult teenager, I dread January 2, 2019!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!

To me the perfect solution is to raise up your child loving and obey God and the parents. The first time I watched porn (about two years ago) I could not forgive myself, I knew I had let my parents down, I had allowed sin and honestly, a week past and was still having trouble forgiving myself. The thing is this: raise your child to love and obey God (to obey everything in the bible) and you will never have to worry about pornography or drugs or any sin. Here at 17 I have a internet access on my phone and computer, but I don't use them for sin, but I use them to chat with my friends and help people out on Christian Chat! My advice is simple and from my experience: "Raise you child to love and obey God!"

What I want to know is how can that much money be spent on a phone, that is not used for work? My kids can not use thier phones for internet...and texting is limited. I also get a statement every month, with all the calls on it. If I don't know a number that is being used a lot...I find out who it belongs to. Our phones are used as tools...not toys. I shut off the phone when it is missused. I do not read thier txt's or choose thier friends. When my teenagers get mad and say they hate me...I tell them that I still love them and I know it's just the anger talking. They always come back and say they are sorry, and that they love me too.

I think if you take the time to watch over your children...it is a good investment.

We've always told our kids that they can come to us with any problem & talk to us about anything - but that, that changes the moment they lie to us.

Tragically, 'though, working closely with Police, the one thing I've seen that teenage girls don't tell their parents about is when they're being bullied by their peers.

I totally agree. I also want to add that parents should explain to their children why they're taking away bad influences....watching a show on bullying with them and then talking about it should help a lot, but I would beg each of you most of all to PLEASE tell your children about Jesus at a young age. Most of them will get saved when they are very little if you do this in a "Guess what, Timmy; I have some wonderful news!" way. Also, don't stop there; raise them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord as you have been ordered to do. Explain to them profusely that they also can have the Creator of the Universe as their best friend; that Jesus isn't just a kind historical figure, rather He wants to help them through life in so many wonderful ways that they can't see right now. It makes it so much easier to wait for things and even abstain from certain things completely :).
It's funny, it seems that the parents who are the most guilty of what their children do wrong are the ones who, instead of admitting that they hold part of the blame for their children's waywardness (very often by spoiling their kids), insist that "there's nothing else I could have done". COMPLETELY blameless?.....

To all the parents who are nervous about setting boundaries with your teens. To say just raise your kids to love and obey God and their parents is a nice sentiment, but in this day and age it's not always that simple. I know plenty of kids from good families with Godly parents who raised them well. There comes a point when your child is just going to make choices that you don't agree with. Training them early will have an effect on those choices, or at least how they respond to those choices but there are plenty of good kids who fall in to sin in a number of ways. It's a part of life. It's a part of growing up. Yes, it does damage, but you must trust your child's healing to the healer of all things, and his/her direction to the one who can see beginning form end.
I did not have good parents. This is not to say they were all bad, but they set almost no boundaries for me and the ones they did set I was allowed to easily trample right over. Because my parents set no boundaries, I set no boundaries for myself. In fact, I never even knew the word until I was in my early 20's. My (non-existant) boundaries were violated all the time by everyone I knew. I had next to no physical boundaries, no emotional boundaries, no financial boudaries. You got it! I was up for grabs in all areas of my life.
However, even as a teenager I knew that I desired for my mom to care enough to give me a curfew. Since I was a good kid I was told I could come home whenever I wanted. I wanted her to say, "No you may not see that boy!" I wanted her to demand I follow something for my safety and well-being. Because she didn't ever set boundaries, and because mine kept getting crossed in the worst of ways, I never felt like I was worth protection. So I married a man who is too timid to standup for me to his friends.
Parents... It's a hard job, but your kids (even if they rebel) desperately need you to care enough to set boundaries for them.
I was the girl who looked at porn. I started very young because of my father, but I was searching for it on my own by 4 or 5 years old. Then when we got a computer, it was much easier to find. While my brother was looking for it also, he got blamed for a lot of the searches I was making and my mom never found out it was actually me. However, even with my brother she just laughed it off.
From a woman who lived an entire life just hoping someone would care enough to not let me do something, please set those boundaries for your kids. If you want to talk, message me. I know first hand some of the worst things that kids without boundaries get into, and I'd like to think I've learned a bit from it.

I made the big mistake of letting my daughter have full control of her cell phone access. Now, I'm so worried what kinds of things she's talking about, reading, and/or sending in text. I try to rear her in the way she should go, but it's like trying to preach to a brick wall with no ears who is constantly pushing you to the brink of insanity because they want their way. It's extremely, EXTREMELY difficult with today's society to raise your child to fully trust in God and obey his commands. We may not be of the world but we live amongst its sins everyday. One can't control the influences kids see outside of the home and one certainly can't lock their child away so they can't feast their eyes on everything evil.
