I will cloy me with egregious wine,
if I recourse to rest, then I dine;
ragamuffin marked with speckle of reproach;
a mockery that made me felt like cockroach:
A black sheep with trait that reeks;
City’s reeled of my re-entry in weeks.
Embrace me, O vice of drunkenness;
on the day of all days,
I will unclothe me a devil of temper which a woman of no importance chiseled into me via birth;
I have grown much older than fledgeling;
not any more regarded as stripling.
I’m not destitute of sheer senses;
the blind could see it without lenses.
I strut on the stage with no dependent feet;
and keep up appearances with great feat;
I guide my faculties with orison; with earnest haste I crave for benison.
Drunk though as I am, I keep fit;
few among many speak well of it;
I made me a house of stone;
it pinnacle seemed like cone;
a place where I learn new tricks;
palace of castle built with bricks;
where I resort for joy. Who then is wise?

or the fool who best knew the way to the happy end?
