Who is your guide (pastor)?

  • “In whatever you do, don't let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves.” (Philippians 2.3).

Or, if you prefer, what is moving us on: selfishness, pride or humbleness? That is to say, we are going forward set on: by our soul that was engrossed in material goods; by the possibility of ingratiating ourselves before people; or by the feasibility of growing in lowliness?

It’s obvious that it is easier to go through the large doors, which always contrive amusing or suitable things. Nonetheless, it is the narrow doors which stir us up to the patience, humility, forbearance, etc. (see Galatians 5.22). It’s good to recall that the branch that don’t bear fruits is cut off and toss on the fire (meditate on John 15.1-8).

Furthermore, the exalted people are those who humble themselves under the powerful hand of Jesus (1Peter 5.5-7). Instead of trying to sort out the predicaments by our capability, let’s lie down to the will of Jesus so that we can see His powerful hand carry out His good, pleasant and perfect will (Romans 12.2).

So, have a day fraught of opportunities in which you can empty yourself so that the power of Jesus is made perfect in you (2Corinthians 12.9,10) and the following promise come to his utter fulfillment:

  • “By humility and the fear of Jehovah are riches and honor and life.” (Proverbs 22.4).
